Yamal creates UCL history with stunning goal and assist against Benfica

Barcelona Wonderkid Lamine Yamal wrote his name in the history books of the Champions League while his side beat Benfica to enter the quarterfinals on Tuesday evening.

Despite playing most of last week's first stage with 10 men after an early red card for Pau Cubarsi, Barcelona took a 1-0 win and went in the return match as tough favorites to make progress.

Only 11 minutes in the second stage, Yamal got the ball and woven his way along a few defenders before he chose Raphinha on the back post, where the Brazilian attacker made no mistake from close by.

Benfica kept their hope alive when Nicolas Otamendi was right two minutes later in the night, but Yamal was again central in the 27th minute.

This time he received the ball at the touchline before cutting inside and an unstoppable attempt hit the goalkeeper.

At 17 years and 241 days old, Yamal became the youngest player in the history of Champions League who scored and assisted in the same game.

Raphinha then gave Barcelona a further breathing space by scoring again three minutes before the interval.

But his second goal of the evening was not without controversy, because it was initially excluded from offside.

After the flag had risen, the referee played for an error in the structure and Otamendi booked.

However, VAR then found that Raphinha was aside and the goal was finally given, while the yellow card of Otamendi was withdrawn.

There were no further goals when Barcelona drove a 4-1 total victory.

Yamal now has 12 goals and 17 assists in all matches this season after winning the euros with Spain last summer.

The teenage sensation seems to take effect, while Barcelona is haunting their first Champions League triumph in a decade.

Barcelona will be confronted with Borussia Dortmund or Lille in the last eight.
