Liverpool head coach Arne Slot took comfort in the fact that the last 16 Champions League exit, for his part, came home to PSG in what he described as “the best football match I have ever been involved”.
PSG defeated Liverpool 1-0 on Anfield after extra time on Tuesday, so that the draw 1-1 on aggregated, after the first half of Ousmane Dembele. The visitors then won 4-1 in a penalty shootout.
“Yes, of course it's a shock,” said Slot. “But if you have to go outside, and go out in a way as we did against one of the best teams in Europe and make such a fight out.
“I hope and think that every fan all over the world hoped that this game just went on, that it would not stop because it was incredible. And eventually they won.”
Visiting goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saved punishments from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones in the shootout, while PSG scored four of the four.
The result comes after the Smash-and-Grab 1-0 victory of Liverpool in Paris last week and many were expected to continue and win the tournament after the top of the eight-game League phase.
Although it is a rare low point in a season of Liverpool Highs and it is important to mention that they are 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League and the EFL Cup final against Newcastle United on Sunday.

Slot, however, suggested that completing the top of the competition phase did not count for something in the tournament.
“We really showed ourselves, we can be proud of what we did, have won seven games in a row. We have come out in a way that I think we have impressed Europe,” he said.
“But yes, it is now something to take into account that we first end up in the competition table and then be confronted with PSG in the next round.
“We were so bad luck to play Paris St Germain, but in the end if you want to win the tournament, you have to beat teams such as PSG.”
