Benfica to face heavy UEFA action after clashes with security in Barcelona game and flare show

Benfica could have heavy sanctions from UEFA after their fans have broken in torches again during their collision with Barcelona on Tuesday evening. Although the match was not stopped at Montjuic on Tuesday, there were more serious incidents, including clashes with security.

During the first stage in Estadio da Luz, referee Felix Zwayer stopped the match for a moment when smoke descended on the field from the torches that had left by Benfica Ultras. UEFA will probably already pay Benfica for those incidents.

However, that did not stop that their travel support began about 20 torches according to TV3. In images taken from under the road section, you can see how security staff goes to the Benfica fans to calm the situation and remove the torches. The Benfica fans, however, then clashed with the aforementioned security personnel, in which one steward was attacked, while the Portuguese contingent broke the security barrier that maintained them.

UEFA will wait for the Match Delegate Metin Kazancioglu report before he decides how to proceed, but the chance is that Benfica will receive a more serious fine and even undergo a partial stadium closing.

Barcelona is not strange to the UEFA promotion, who often receive fines for fans who display Esteladas, flags that support Catalan independence. Earlier in the season, however, there was a much more serious incident, in which Nazi symbols were shown during an away game to AS Monaco, for which Barcelona was banned to sell tickets for their next road match in Crvena Zvezda.

That in turn led to a few tensions between the club and the zangs section, which have been banned from Montjuic since earlier this season. Barcelona has demanded that they pay € 21k to fines that have been handed over to the club as a result of insults from that area of the stadium, while the singing section says that the individuals must be punished, not the collective.
