Ruben Amorim said it is up to him and his players of Manchester United to change Sir Jim Ratcliffe's opinion after his destructive assessment of the current team of the Red Devils.
Ratcliffe, who took control of football activities at Old Trafford 12 months ago, has difficulty seeing an appearance of a positive return on his investment during his term of office.
In an interview with BBC Sport earlier this week, Ratcliffe said that some players in the United team were “not good enough” and “too much paid”, although he did not specify which players.
At a separate point in the interview, he has Andre Onana, Rasmiro, Casemiro, Antony and Jadon Sancho as transfer agreements that Ineos had “inherited” at the club and still pay off.
After their 1-1 draw with Arsenal last Sunday, United is in the Premier League table in the 14th and on course for their lowest finish in the top flight.
Thursday's Europa League play against Real Sociedad is intentionally at 1-1, but Amorim insists that he feels comfortable with Ratcliffe who offers his opinions in such a public way.
When asked about Ratcliffe's comments, Amorim said: “I think if we are honest at the moment, everyone – me, the players – will stay behind this season.
“I include myself in the underperforming. You are talking about players such as Casemiro who have won everything and we know that these players can play so much better.
“He (Ratcliffe) was honest at that. The focus is to change thoughts and everyone else.”
The only hope of United on silverware rests on their Europa League campaign, with Liga -Outfit Real Sociedad the visitors to Old Trafford on Thursday.
The only defeat of the Red Devils about their last 28 Europa League matches in Old Trafford (W21 D6) was against Sociedad in September 2022.
In the knockout phases of the competition, however, United has been unbeaten in 15 (W10 D5) since she lost 3-2 to Marcelo Bielsa's Athletic Bilbao in March 2012.
But if they want progress, Amorim without Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire will be, but he has transported midfielder Manuel Ugarte back into his ranks.
Mason Mount returned to the training on Wednesday, but this game is coming too fast, with the 26-year-old recovering from a thigh injury and has not played since December 15.
“It's too early for Mason Mount. Leny Yoro is out, Harry Maguire cannot play it, but I hope to have him for Sunday. Manuel Ugarte is in the team,” Amorim added.
