There will be two LA Liga representatives in the quarter-final phase of the Champions League 2024-25: Barcelona and Real Madrid. After a 4-1 aggregated victory over Benfica, the Catalans progressed, but it was much less comfortable for the defensive champions, who needed punishments to see city rivalen Atletico Madrid.
After the conclusion of Wednesday's matches, the line-up for the quarterfinals of the Champions League is now known. Barcelona will be confronted with Borussia Dortmund, who won an excellent 2-1 victory over Lille in the second stage of their round of 16 draw to book their place in the last eight.
The first stage of that draw will be played in the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Company on 7 or 8 April, with the return to Dortmund the following week. Because they are home first, Barcelona will be determined to achieve a considerable advantage before the away match, but they are stimulated by the fact that they have already defeated the Bundesliga giants in their own stadium this season and won 3-2 during the competition phase.
The reward of Real Madrid for seeing Atleti is a match-up against Arsenal, which explicitly defeated PSV Eindhoven 9-3 over two legs in their round of 16 draw. The first stage will be at the Emirates Stadium, while Los Blancos will have a home advantage for the return match on 14 or 15 April.
Barcelona and Real Madrid will both like to continue to the semi-final phase of the Champions League, where they would be confronted with further heavy match-ups. The side of Hansi Flick would be against Inter Milan or Bayern Munich if they beat Dortmund, while Carlo Ancelotti and his team would be players against Paris Saint-Germain or Aston Villa.
