‘I wanted to do myself damage’ Pep appears in front of press with marks on head

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is undoubtedly struggling to come to terms with the series his side are in, but he was chastening the side on Tuesday night. The former Barcelona man appeared before the press with marks on his head and a cut on his nose after his side threw away a three-goal lead in the closing stages of their Champions League clash with Feyenoord.

City were at the worst of Guardiola's career before welcoming the Dutch side to the Etihad, stringing together five straight defeats. However, the way City stopped that run will have done little to lower Guardiola's blood pressure.

After the match, the Catalan coach spoke to the press, as quoted by Cadena SER, and explained them by saying: “With my finger I want to hurt myself”, with a smile.

Given how intensely Guardiola enjoys football and how quickly the pressure has mounted at City, this is a worrying sight. Hopefully it was a passing episode, but most workplaces would have a safety protocol in place at this point. How exactly he caused himself that damage remains unclear. Things aren't going to get any easier with a visit to Anfield on Sunday to take on Premier League leaders Liverpool.
