Liverpool warned Man City crisis could make Anfield trip ‘perfect’ for Guardiola

Former Manchester City star Gael Glichy believes Sunday's blockbuster trip to Liverpool has come at the 'perfect' time for Pep Guardiola's men despite their collapse against Feyenoord.

City went into Tuesday's Champions League match having lost five games in a row, but took a commanding 3-0 lead thanks to Erling Haaland's double and Ilkay Gundogan's goal. But the hosts fell apart in the final 15 minutes to leave the Etihad Stadium stunned.

First Anis Hadj Moussa took advantage of a mistake from Josko Gvardiol to score Feyenoord's first goal, before substitute Santiago Gimenez fired home their second with eight minutes to go.

They completed their stunning comeback when David Hancko struck in the 89th minute. Guardiola's side have now failed to win in their last six games, but Clichy is hopeful the miserable run can end with the Premier League leaders.

“It's not a crisis, but we are talking about a huge mountain to climb. Liverpool is probably the perfect match for City to play again. They go to Anfield and have to be 100 percent focused,” he told Amazon Prime .

“Today they didn't take the risk of ruining the game. You have to take risks. You can't go to Liverpool feeling sorry for yourself and you have to have positive aspects of that. I have no words for it.”

“From a very comfortable match, 3-0 up, you end up in a situation where it feels like a defeat. Two of the three goals are given by City with mistakes that you can actually avoid. The worrying thing is that you cannot continue keep making mistakes.” individual mistakes.

“You can play as well as you want, but if your players fail individually, things like tonight can happen. This is what we have seen now in the last five, six games.”

Not only would City have fallen behind Liverpool in the title race, but on current form City would need a play-off round to reach the Last 16 of the Champions League. And Guardiola worryingly admitted his team have become 'vulnerable' in recent games.

“Many games we have been vulnerable lately and of course we need a win, and the match was good for confidence. We played at a good level and for the first time something happened there were problems,” he told Amazon Prime. .

“I don't know if it's mental, it's a matter of technique. The first goal can't happen and the second one can't happen either, so that's why we're desperate to win after that, desperate to do well. We did well , but we don't win games.

“Right now it's not ready to think about it [the remaining Champions League games]. We have to recover for the next games, just think about what will happen in the future, what you have to do, and we are not able to win a game like today, it is difficult to do that.”
