Reported: Salah’s thoughts are clear as MU ‘plot’ big offer for incredible star

Manchester United are looking to steal an advantage over Liverpool in the race for Omar Marmoush, a man Mohamed Salah branded 'incredible'.

The Eintracht Frankfurt striker has been on fire this season, scoring eleven goals in as many Bundesliga games. His impressive record has put Frankfurt in an unexpected title challenge. After finishing sixth last season, the team now sits second in the league, hot on the heels of league leaders Bayern Munich.

Naturally, Marmoush's stellar form has attracted admiring glances from many of Europe's top clubs. Liverpool are thought to be favorites to land the Egyptian, especially with his international teammate Salah reportedly set to compete for him.

But according to Sky Sports Germany, United are keeping a close eye on Marmoush's situation and are considering a January approach for the 25-year-old. Frankfurt reportedly want around £50 million, although that figure is likely to rise if several clubs show interest.

The Red Devils could dip their toes into the transfer market in January to give new manager Ruben Amorim the chance to shape the squad to his liking, especially with his penchant for a back three system. Personnel issues were evident from the start against Ipswich on Sunday, and it is understood full-backs, central midfielders and forwards are on the club's transfer wish list.

Marmoush is capable of playing across the front three, which would give Amorim a lot of depth and versatility going forward. As things stand, United don't have a particularly reliable goalscorer – with Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee all experiencing dry spells – and he could be just what the doctor ordered when it comes to attacking momentum.

Liverpool, meanwhile, could increase their interest in Marmoush if Salah's contract situation deteriorates further. On Sunday, the 32-year-old dropped a bombshell by telling reporters he had not been offered a new contract and was “more out than in” after the Reds' 3-2 win over Southampton.

Salah's future at Anfield has been up in the air for some time. His contract expires at the end of the season, meaning Liverpool will lose him for free unless they tie him down to a new contract in the coming months. He reportedly earns £350,000 a week, and the club are said to be reluctant to offer him a multi-year contract at the same or a similar salary.

Liverpool's interest in Marmoush is not dependent on Salah's future, but the club may feel under pressure to secure his services if it becomes clear he will not stay beyond the summer. According to German BILD, Reds boss Arne Slot has been impressed by Marmoush's versatility and believes the player would be an excellent addition to his squad with or without Salah – who sang Marmoush's praises earlier this month.

“Omar Marmoush, incredibly talented and currently an important player for his club and national team,” he told WinWin. “I hope he can avoid comparisons [to me] because they will continue to put pressure on him. People should stop comparing him to me, saying that he is 'the new Salah' and that he will do what I did, or better yet, this will not help him.

“You can't compare him to a player who has achieved so much over the years while just getting started. Let him live his own experience and enjoy it. He is doing something different, in his own unique way.”

Marmoush started out at Egyptian side Wadi Degla before sealing a career-launching move to Wolfsburg in 2017. He was later loaned out to St. Pauli and Stuttgart before being sold to Frankfurt in 2023.

In his debut season at the Waldstadion he scored seventeen goals in all competitions and is now just three goals away from equaling that tally in the current season. He has also been a regular in Egypt since 2021, where he played 35 international matches and scored six goals.
