Thomas Tuchel believes that Jordan Henderson can still be a 'big' part of the future of England after he has handed him a shock to the national team.
The recording of Henderson was the biggest surprise when the first team of Tuchel when the England manager was unveiled at 9 am on Friday morning.
The former Liverpool star has not played for England since November 2023, after he moved to Saudi Arabia and then moved to Ajax.
His last outings in 2023 were marred with protests and angry when fans announced their feelings about what as a controversial move to Al-Eittifaq saw.
“I think his career and the way he now plays and imposes himself on Ajax is just that impressive,” Tuchel said.
'He builds on character, personality and energy that he brings to the team.
'For me, Jordan is a similar call-up for the same reasons as Burn. They wear these values on their shoulders and they wear their teams.
'It is absolutely reliable what they bring in terms of energy and this is where the focus is for us to build a strong team and a coherent team. Jordan is a big piece in that puzzle for us. '
Marcus Rashford has also received a lifeline from England after missing the European championship and have not played for his country since March.
The 27-year-old had a difficult 18 months at Manchester United, but looks closer to his old self and plays under Unai Emery on loan in Aston Villa.
Tuchel said: 'He has lately had a huge impact in the matches in Aston Villa. I was very happy to see his efforts on the ball and his efforts to be the best possible teammate and his consistent energy.
“There is no doubt about his talent and about his quality, but to see him so decisively and so physically involved, gave me the impression that it is the right time to call him up and to give him the extra push he stays at that level.”
Dan Burn, 32, and Myles Lewis-Skelly, 18, are the two men who look forward to their debut English Senior Kampen.
The defenders come to the team at a time when Harry Maguire, then Burn and Trent Alexander-Arnold are missing due to injury.
Mail Sport exclusively revealed in advance that Burn was set to make Tuchel's England team after making his long list of around 55 players.
“He had a very impressive career and he is a very solid player,” said Tuchel. “He is a very solid defender and a leader in the group.
“I spoke with then and it was a very impressive phone call with very impressive messages that made me very comfortable in this call-up that we chose a top team player who will help us build the right team.”
In an unconventional movement, Tuchel has mentioned four keepers. National teams usually keep to three, but Jordan Pickford is accompanied by Aaron Ramsdale, Dean Henderson and James Trafford.
“These are the four keepers that we think we can build our team,” said the German. 'We want to give the message immediately that this is a new start for everyone.
“At the same time we can see how they work together and how the energy is between them.”
