Macario ‘curious and excited’ by four-game run against Man City

Catarina Macario is “curious and excited” about the challenge presented to Chelsea while preparing for Manchester City in four consecutive games.

For the first time, the teams are opposed to the Women's League Cup final on Saturday before they played a two-legged Champions League quart final draw, on both sides of their super League meeting of their ladies next weekend.

They compete against each other in the League Cup final for the second time, and also did this in 2021-22 when the blues took the lead before City claimed the trophy with a 3-1 comeback victory.

Chelsea has in fact lost four competition cup matches against City, and has only lost more against Arsenal (five). However, they won the most recent meeting in the semi -final of last season.

The side of Sonia Bompastor had the upper hand in their WSL meeting earlier this season and earned a 2-0 win away from home, and Macario believes that the fact that they know that City can make it so good.

“We know them very well, it is something that will be mentally and physically difficult for both teams,” I believe, “Macario told Opta Content Agency.

“I am very curious and excited to play in it, hopefully, and just to see how the teams will stand in line and see how we try to beat each other, because as a player and a fan is a very exciting event, so you can see the creative ways in which the coaches will try to beat each other.

“Especially if you know them so well, and you play them four times in a row. I look forward to it, but it will certainly be a difficult one.”

Chelsea competes in their sixth Women's League Cup final; After winning their first two (2020, 2021), they finished second in each of the last three seasons.

They want to avoid an unwanted record of four consecutive definitive losses, but will be confident, have enjoyed a beautiful run under Bompastor so far this season.

They are undefeated in their 27 games in all competitions and still have the chance to win a quadruple.

“It is clear that so far we are very happy with our statistics,” Macario added. “We want to win everything.

“It would be incredible to keep our streak while getting a trophy.

“That is something that is part of our standard and how we want to continue. But at the same time we want to play well above everything.

“So I love looking at those statistics and knowing that we have an unbeaten line. I think the implementation is the most important thing, and we both want to do.”
