Barcelona star whistled by own fans during Champions League win over Brest
Barcelona had a fairly relaxed evening in the Champions League against Brest on Tuesday evening, moving the ball around with ease in a quiet 3-0 win. It was a very good evening for Hansi Flick and his side, who returned to winning ways after a defeat against Real Sociedad and a draw against Celta Vigo, with one notable exception.
While Flick may have saved him for Sunday against Las Palmas, as Marc Casado is out due to suspension, Frenkie de Jong was once again on the bench for Montjuic. The Dutchman came on in the last five minutes for Pedri, who received an ovation after a strong performance. However, when De Jong came on, a number of whistles also sounded. Sport opens the door to the idea that the trust he has received from Hansi Flick may be changing now that Gavi is back from injury.
Earlier this week it was reported that Barcelona's hierarchy were frustrated with his contributions so far, feeling he lacked the necessary aggressiveness and commitment. De Jong will be more than used to negative reports about him in the local media, but overall he has enjoyed a starting place during his career at Barcelona. It seems like it's slipping away from him, with things the way they are.
