Conceicao confident AC Milan on verge of turnaround

Sergio Conukicao is convinced that AC Milan is about to run their season after an exciting 2-1 comeback victory in Como.

It was the second consecutive Serie A match in which Milan came from behind to win, after last week's 3-2 victory at Lecce, who had stopped a series of three straight competitions.

Lucas da Cunha had given Como a first half a lead, but Tijjani Reijnders stood in the heart of the second half of Milan and set Christian Pulisic for the Equalizer before scored the winner in the 75th minute.

It was the first time that the Dutchman both scored a goal and offered an assist in the same competition in his career in the top 10 European competitions.

Milan is now seventh in the table and are confronted with a fight to make its way on the rankings and to secure the qualification of the Champions League for next season.

“I see the results of a group that really wants to do well and gives everything. There is an incredible desire to turn the moment and season of Milan,” Confeicao told reporters.

Milan struggled to contain como in the first half; The visitors had eight shots earlier in the first 45 minutes worth 0.66 expected goals (XG), with three of them on goal.

After the break, Milan improved and scored with both efforts on goal, where Como is unable to take their chances despite, again, more shots.

“There were positive moments, but also somewhat less good,” Confeicao added.

“We started the game well, then we admitted and doubt the spirit of the players. It happens. We were too deep and our penetration was not properly executed.

“In the second half we used the weaknesses of Como well: you can clearly see in the goals that we scored what we have worked on. This break is important.”

Since the arrival of Conukicao at the beginning of 2025, only Bologna (15) has received more points of losing positions than Milan (12) in the current five major European competitions.

But Pulisic said he didn't know why the Rossoneri had recently struggled in the first half of matches.

“I can't give you a reason, we want to start the game stronger and I don't know why we are always in trouble in the first half this season. The most important thing is to do better in the second,” he said.

“We have to be more positive because we have won two games in a row. We have the chance to get where we want, but we think of Game by Game.”

In the meantime, Reijnders believes that this can be the perfect springboard to help them end their season in a high.

“This is something that we are suffering this season. I don't think it's sharpness, but we make personal mistakes and these things can't happen if you play for Milan,” said Reijnders.

“I said several times this season, we have to improve, and at the moment the best time is to do it.”

Como ended the game with 10 men when Dele Alli was only sent in his comeback for 10 minutes. It was his first performance since playing for Besiktas in February 2023, but he got his marsorders in a stop time for the stamp on the leg of Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The Cesc Fabregas team has now lost 22 points to win positions, although they remain nine points away from the relegation zone.

“Dele Alli is a goal scorer, I tried to give him a chance. A serious mistake from an experienced player. Clear Red, he left the team at a time when it could have made it 2-2,” said Fabregas, who also received a late red card, to Dazn.

“It has been a bad luck, so many small details that hurt. I never give up, I am positive and we always move forward.”
