Greenwood’s Man Utd reunion, ‘confidence’ over transfer, ‘attitude’ frustrations

Change is on the horizon for former Manchester United Vooruit Mason Greenwood – and it can be in more than one way.

The 23-year-old recovered Marseille's attack after breaking ties with the Red Devils last summer. However, his form fell after a clear start of his career in France and he was recently dropped from the XI of Roberto de Zerbi in the midst of reports that the coaching staff had the problem with the attitude of the player.

Greenwood hopes to return to the Italian team soon, where Marseille travels to Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday evening. And the competition also comes in the midst of speculation about his international future, with the attacker of the English England who is supposedly to change his loyalty into a movement that would set him up for a reunion with a familiar face.

It may not be the only major change that Greenwood makes this summer as rumors of swallowing a different transfer. And Spiegel Sport breaks exactly how that benefits United.

Marseille Malaise

With 15 goals in Ligue 1 this season, only PSG Forward Ousmane Dembele (20) will lead the Marseille man in the race for the Golden Boot of France. Nevertheless, Greenwood – who was sold by United last year after being accused of attempted rape, abuse and controlling behavior, although those charges were later withdrawn – was surprisingly fallen by his manager.

The inhabitant of Bradford only played the second half in a 1-0 defeat at home at Lens, ending his end to his score in four straight Royal League. RMC Sport reported that he was ax after the staff of Greenwood, 'Attitude' and 'lack of effort', it had been fed up with similar reports that appear at Old Trafford during his days.

The decision to drop Greenwood is tuning with comments former Brighton -Baas de Zerbi recently made the player. “I wanted him here, I said it time and time again. He was the first player with whom I contacted, even before I signed for.

“I had already spoken to his father. Nobody can have more respect for him than me. But that does not change anything. I expect him more. He has to do more, because what he is currently showing is not enough. If he wants to achieve his ambition to become a champion, he must sacrifice more consistent.”

After gesturing for the loss of Lens – the first defeat of Marseille since November 2024 – the manager will hope for a positive response from his players against PSG. Get Frans Voetbalnieuws, however, reported that Greenwood continued to train with replacements for Le Classique, with Bilal Nadir in pole position to nod instead.

Man utd reunion

A manager who seems to want Greenwood for sure as part of his plans is Jamaica -Baas Steve McClaren. And after it was confirmed last year that the player asked to change his international loyalty, it seems just a matter of time before he plays for the Reggae Boyz.

McClaren was part of Erik ten Hag's coaching staff and spent two years at Old Trafford before taking over the national team from Jamaica. His return took place a few months after Greenwood was first suspended by the club – although he and McClaren share a past with United in common.

“We always have contact with him and his family,” said the Jamaica -Baas recently when he was asked about the progress of Greenwood in a potential switch. “I am confident that he only wants to play for Jamaica. It is up to him if he continues with it. The ball is in his court.”

Greenwood won his only English cap in a 1-0 UEFA Nations League victory in Iceland in September 2020. However, he and teammate Phil Foden were later sent home and fined after violating COVID-19 Guidelines.

The Marseille player reportedly submitted papers in August 2024 to change faithfully to Jamaica, which he qualifies to represent through his mother. And Fa, Chief Executive Mark Bullingham has since confirmed that it was Greenwood who asked for the change, instead of hearing that he would not have a future with the team.

“So my understanding, and I should check my understanding, he was asked to switch,” said the Fa -Baas. “That happened formally, so he couldn't because you can only switch once.

'I know people asked Gareth [Southgate] He was at the front of him and Gareth because he had not been in his thinking because he had not performed at that level, so I am not aware of any communication we had with him. I don't think there was ever a request or something like that. It just wasn't someone we got, so it's a personal decision from him. “

Man utd 'confident' of profit

In the midst of all the talk about the career of Greenwood that moves in different directions at club and international level, they are possible fans who are subject to a different transfer this summer. And the loss of Marseille can be a lot of united profit.

This is due to the 50% Sell-on clause that was inserted into the player's contract when he came to Marseille last year for £ 26.6 million. Les Olympiens are under no immediate pressure to sell, since the Greenwood contract is executed until 2029, but the correct range after a breakthrough campaign can cause another switch.

United is “increasingly self -confident” that their former possession will indeed move as interest in his characteristic swellings. After all, Greenwood is only one goal of matching his career-best count of 16 goals in a season with a lot of football still to play this term.

Goal reported that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are interested in the player, while Real Madrid is also linked. Moreover, this is that PSG is disputed as a potential freer if he wants to stay in France.

It is assumed that the player is open to return to La Liga after he initially launched his career on loan at Getafe. United may not be able to give it so much for where the attacker will end next season, as long as it protects them the highest possible reduction in future transfer costs to stimulate Ruben Amorim's own summer budget.
