Liverpool -legend Jamie Carragher believes that his former club should sign at least two new attacking players this summer.
The Reds were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday in Wembley Stadium.
That result, which only came five days after an exit from the Champions League through the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, means that the men of Arne Slot have now lost five games in all competitions this calendar year, even though they have been undefeated in the Premier League since September.
Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager last summer and has since signed only one first team, which brought Federico Chiesa -who scored a late consolation goal after strikes from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak.
Carragher is determined that Liverpool should be much more active in the next transfer window.
Carragher spoke at Sky Sports after the Wembley loss of Sunday and said: 'It was probably one of the worst versions I saw in a cup final from Liverpool.
'But they have given so much this season and they have lost one league match. It is difficult to be too critical, but it has a slightly shaved where Liverpool has to improve. '
Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk all went into the last four months of their current contracts, which means that one or all could choose to leave Anfield on a free transfer this summer.
But Carragher thinks that Liverpool desperately needs to attack reinforcements, even if Salah remains.
He added: 'The lack of pace in attack is striking. I feel sorry for Mohamed Salah, he was stopped by PSG and he was not great today, but he doesn't get any help from the other attackers.
'The other attackers are good players, but they are not great. They have to buy two attackers this summer to play next to Salah.
'The last week has shown what they need in the summer. It is exciting because Liverpool will win the competition and they still have to improve in some areas. '
