YouTube boxer KSI feuds with former coach over claims he ‘destroyed’ AnEsonGib in early sparring session
Social media star KSI found himself in an intense verbal battle with his original coach during a ringside brawl in Qatar on Wednesday.
The founder of Misfits Boxing is one of the most infamous names in the fight, and despite only fighting a handful of times, he etched his name in history with some huge shows. He made his debut in 2018 when he stopped Joe Weller, before moving on to a pair of fights with Logan Paul, which he drew and won.
A key factor in his camp for those famous early fights was Leon Wills, who trained him along with top cruiserweight prospect Viddal Riley to beat Paul. But the pair have since gone their separate ways, with Wills now teaming up with other fighters including AnEsonGib.
KSI and AnEsonGib turned from friends to enemies this week
KSI and AnEsonGib were best friends for years, collaborating on social media projects and even embarking on their boxing journeys together in London in 2018. However, in recent months, things have turned sour between the duo, culminating in a split this month. week.
“Gib” has resisted the opportunity to fight at Misfits Boxing, which is run by his longtime friend, for years. Instead, he took bigger money offers to compete in Social Gloves and Kingpyn Boxing, both of which eventually went bankrupt.
But he has now finally agreed to join Misfits and will make his debut under their banner against Slim Albaher on Thursday evening. The pair are ostensibly fighting for the promotion's super-middleweight title, but Gib claims he won't accept the belt if they do compete.
In the lead-up, KSI has taken a very active stance in Albaher's favor, which is surprising considering the pair weren't scheduled to fight until August. He has made his prediction of victory for the American clear and has antagonized his old friend as much as possible.
KSI feuds with ex-trainer Leon Wills at the Misfits Boxing event
During Thursday's open training sessions in Qatar, tensions almost boiled over between KSI and one of Gib's coaches, Leon Wills. While the Main Eventer was training in the ring, his rival goaded him from ringside, leading to an altercation with the famed coach.
At yesterday's press conference, KSI claimed to have 'destroyed' Gib during sparring sessions on his way up the rankings. But Wills insists it was a 'Shark Tank' style session, with the pair completing just two laps before Gib moved on to another opponent.
After KSI claimed Wills “saw the spar,” his old coach asked him to “tell me what happened.” KSI then insisted that his former friend was 'obliterated', to which Wills replied: 'Let's talk about the four-round spar', and went on to detail how the session went with 20oz gloves and lasted just two rounds.
“You changed and someone else stepped in the ring,” Wills laughed. “You went two rounds, someone else came into the ring and sparred Gib and that was it… Listen, did that happen? Be honest, JJ… Everyone knows he starts slow, I have to admit you looked good for two laps.
AnEsonGib talks about the KSI relationship
'Gib' seems to let everything with KSI take its course during the build-up. He admits that he has taken on the role of a kind of anti-hero who opposes the promotion, which means being at odds with his former friend.
Speaking exclusively to Bloody Elbow, the Brit explained: “You know what? I'm coming for their best fighter, I don't really like the selection and if he wants to back Slim then fair enough because Slim is his property. So I'm just going to destroy him with this [hands].

As for a potential fight between the two, it's not at the top of the priority list for 'Gib'. However, he is said to be willing to accept the idea, adding: “If the opportunity arises, I am open to negotiations.
“But it's not a fight I'm chasing, right now I'm locked in this fight with Slim. I know everyone wants to know what's next, but I'm stuck in this fight and I'm ready to take this man's head off.”
