Those with their ear to the wrist in Spanish football would have been well aware of the rising talent of Antonio Cordero in Malaga in the last two seasons. The teenage wing is the court made by the largest and best in Spain, but it seems that his next destination will be the Premier League.
The 18-year-old winger is from contract in the summer, and despite the best attempts by Malaga to hold their asterisk with fresh renewal offers, Agent Pini Zahavi seems to secure a larger contract elsewhere. Barcelona and Real Madrid are already fighting a large part of the last 12 months before his signature, tipped with the Catalan side to be favorites because of the ties from Zahavi to the club.
They made an offer for Cordero last year, but that was rejected by Malaga. After recent reports in England who claim that Newcastle United are favorites to beat both Clasico Giants against Cordero, Marca is the newest source that claims his next destination St. James' Park. They explain that Cordero, apart from a large plot twist, will sign a deal with Newcastle, unless Barcelona returns with a much larger supply. Arsenal is also linked to Cordero, but it seems that they look outside.
The Teenage Starlet has five goals and six assists this season in his 30 performances, but looked at home in Segunda, after he had scored the goal in the play-offs to get Malaga there last season. For about half of their games Cordero has been a starter and has yielded eight performances for the Spain's Under-19-side and scored once.
If Newcastle Codeero can protect, this will represent a large coup to persuade him to avoid the progress of the two largest clubs in Spain in favor of Tyneside. The Magpies probably present him a better financial package, but perhaps also an easier route to football in the first team, something that has been particularly difficult at Real Madrid.
