Barcelona reach agreement in principle with defender over contract

Barcelona will continue to extend contract extensions in recent months, because they want to close many of their most important players in the coming months. The next in line could be Jules Kounde, who reportedly has in principle reached an agreement to continue on the club in the long term.

The Blaugrana have already tackled most of their contracts that will be in 2026 for important players, although they still have to solve negotiations with Frenkie de Jong. There are then a number of players with their future in the air for this summer, including Eric Garcia, Inaki Pena, Andreas Christensen and Pablo Torre.

Director of Football Deco, however, has already started to look ahead to people with deals who expire for new deals in 2027, and after the conversation that Raphinha and Lamine Yamal also have new deals in the works, Kounde apparently found a rough agreement on conditions for a new deal until 2030 says Sport. The French defender is under contract until 2027 and would receive a small wage increase to add an extra three years to his deal.

Now apparently much more satisfied with his role on right back, Kounde would be 31 when the New Deal ends and the club is completely satisfied with him. He is currently 26 crucial for Hansi Flick this season, as was the case for Xavi Hernandez since he arrived at the right of the defense. He has played 43 times, scored three times and gave eight assists, already collected for 3,541 minutes and made him one of the most used players in Europe,

It is a further sign that Barcelona is planning to secure their future after new deals for Ronald Araujo, Gerard Martin, Pedri, Gavi and Inigo Martinez in recent months. That said, the suspicion lingers in the air that some of these deals are pending further salary limit problems in the line.
