Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann can be rivals at club level, but they are bound together on the international stage – or at least they were until they announced his pension in September.
For many, that came as a shock, and on the back there was speculation that the decision could have come because Griezmann was split off as the leader of France in favor that Mbappe got the bracelet. The Real Madrid -Superster has now tackled the matter and states that he has a strong report with the Atletico Madrid icon, according to Le Parisien (via Marca).
“I can assure you that Antoine and I have a very good relationship. He has even invited me several times for a barbecue. But in Madrid it is impossible to do this for the double header. It has not happened yet, but it is certain of the same, but he is not just a decision.
“We talked about it before, and we did it again in the training camp in September … That concentration was difficult for him and me, we suffered a lot. After France-Belgium (in September) we returned to Madrid together, and he was with his family … I can't tell you anything else, except that he didn't surprise me when he announced his pension.”
Mbappe was also asked about the possibility that Zinedine Zidane became the next head coach of France, after confirming that the current manager Didier Deschamps will leave his position after the World Cup 2026.
“I don't know who will follow him. I know who you want me to talk, but I will not talk about him because that is not my role. There is a president of the federation, and he is the one who is going to make that decision. Everyone is talking about Zidane, so we are not going to pretend we live in a cave and we don't know it is to talk about it.”
