Real Madrid has struggled for a good part of the season in midfield, but in recent weeks they have improved considerably in this area – and an important reason for this was the increased fame of Luka Modric.
Modric, who is the oldest performances and goal scorer of Real Madrid, has been a Lynchpin for Real Madrid since mid -February – and he had to be, given that Dani Ceballos was excluded for two months with an injury that was sustained at the beginning of March in the beginning of March. The 39-year-old even earned a rare start in Los Blancos' Champions League round of 16 second leg conflicts against city rivals Atletico Madrid, who is now proof of his fame under Carlo Ancelotti.
Modric is not counted as much as Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Ceballos, although this is understandable considering his age. However, he has shown his class lately, and Real Madrid would be wise to expand his stay, especially because they are currently trying – and failure – to find his successor.
And the good news for Real Madrid is that Modric is willing to expand his stay in the club for at least one year, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. The experienced Croatian has made it clear to club officials that he wants to get the chance to play until the summer of 2026, even if it is in a squadrol.
Although it would be logical for Real Madrid to keep Modric for a different season, it is reported that club bosses are not too in love with the idea of offering the midfielder a contract extension. Anyway, the case is not expected to be discussed until the end of the current campaign.
It is still to be seen whether Modric is able to secure another season at Real Madrid, but given his versions in recent weeks, it would be logical because he has shown that he is still at the required level.
