Jordan Pickford believes that it is a great step by Thomas Tuchel to remember one of the leaders of England in Jordan Henderson.
Tuchel announced his first English team last Friday, prior to the upcoming world cup qualifications against Albania and Latvia.
Henderson was something of a surprising inclusion, in which the midfielder had fallen from the photo of the national team since his move to Saudi Arabia and the subsequent transfer to Ajax.
But Pickford thinks that the 34-year-old can offer exactly the kind of experience and leadership that requires these three Lions team.
“His desire to want to win and what he has won and achieved is driven by himself,” Pickford said.
“He is a winner and a great leader. I think bringing Hendo back is great for the team.
“He was a vice-captain for many years. He didn't come to the last euros, but he was a vice-captain to Harry in 2018 [Kane].
“I think someone like Hendo, it's great. If leaders are in your group, the teams who have won that experience always had in the side.
“I think it's a great step for us to have someone like him in the team. What he did, how he is still driven – whether he is playing or not, he will be the leader on the training pitch.”
Henderson has played 81 times for England. Since he made his international debut in November 2010, only Harry Kane (103), Kyle Walker (93), John Stones (83) and Raheem Sterling (82) have won more caps for the Drie Leeuwen.
And Pickford feels that Henderson can offer in and around the team back, the type of mentality can offer England, twice euro -finalists under Gareth Southgate, will help, take the next step under Tuchel.
“We have been knocking on the door for a while. We are to two finals, a semi -final and a quarterfinals,” he added.
“It's about that next step now. We know what is needed to get there. It's about what is needed to eliminate the trophy, and that's what the manager came in,” Pickford said.
“We have the first call-up of Dan Burn, which is a great achievement for him. We have Hendo with how many caps he has.
“He has that winning mentality, which he won as a player and a captain in Liverpool.
“To have those leaders in the neighborhood, the more leaders you have in the team, I think the more success they will bring.
“They will stimulate training standards, they will manage standards around the place and make it a better camp for everyone.”
Asked if England missed in the final of Euro 2024, in which they went to Spain 2-1, Pickford replied: “Jord is a great boy and respected by all players and the staff.
“I don't think we'll ever know if he was a miss when we came to the final. This manager brought Hendo and I know how much a leader he is and how respected he is, so I think it's just a good thing.”
Henderson has made 39 performances in all competitions for Ajax this period.
