Christian Eriksen was tipped to return to his former club Ajax after he has announced his intentions to leave Manchester United in the summer.
The 33-year-old Denmark International was out of the contract in Old Trafford in June and after silence of the club about their plans for the future that he is preparing for a new challenge abroad.
'I have heard nothing from the club and that is why I assume the collaboration will stop. That's how I interpret it, “he said on Tuesday during international service.
'My contract is going this summer and I am willing to find something new. I think that's fine. Where it will be, I have not decided yet '.
Now, according to Dutch reports, Ajax is on the rise as a possibility for the 33-year-old, who appeared 162 performances before the side before moving to Tottenham in 2013.
De Telegraaf claims that the midfielder does not want to return to Denmark to end his career and did not exclude a possible move to the Johan Cruyff Arena.
If Eriksen makes a switch to the Dutch giants, it would see him reunite with the former man United teammate Wout Woghorst.
The two players found a close relationship – with the Dane that previously saw in their United Days Weghorst – before the departure of rush hour in 2023.
The Dutch star only spent half a season in Old Trafford after he was recalled from his first loan in Burnley and was sent to United for the second half of 2022-23.
During that time he scored two goals over 31 performances. He then spent a season in Hoffenheim before he came to Ajax in the most recent summer transfer window.
Earlier in the week, Eriksen continued: 'I didn't try not to have a contract anymore, except after the cardiac arrest, but that was a bit of a different situation.
'I wait and see which offers come in. I am not going to make hasty decisions, but if the right thing comes, I will assume. But I don't know what the right thing is. '
Eriksen spent a season in Italy with Inter Milan before returning to England in 2022 to play for Brentford. In the same year he joined Manchester United One a three -year -old deal.
He has made 27 performances this season, much of the bank, but has shown in recent weeks that he can play a role in a system that relates to his lack of pace, in particular following the transition.
But having said that, going back to Denmark or a switch to Major League Soccer in the United States are both of the table, just like a stay in England.
“The intention is not to stay in England,” he added. 'I'm not going to the US, we're not going that far. We would like to stay in Europe, but it is too early to go home to Denmark. '
Eriksen is determined to play in the World Cup 2026 next year and so his next move away from Manchester United will be crucial to keep him sharp for what his last major international tournament will be.
“I feel that I have a few good years abroad,” Eriksen, who previously played in the Serie A with Inter Milan and in the Eredivisie with Ajax, added.
'If you go back to Denmark, I have the feeling that it is really about family and finishing your career, and that is fair enough, but I am not there yet.
