Barcelona has a point to offer new long-term contracts to some of their most important players, but as director of football deco plans for the team next season, there are some areas of uncertainty.
It seems that Barcelona wants to sell to sell Inaki Pena, Andreas Christensen, and without a contract extension to the horizon, says Sport also Pablo Torre, despite some promising versions this season. All three are from contract at the end of 2026, and Deco does not want players who enter into the last year of their deal, with the exceptions of Inigo Martinez, Robert Lewandowski and possibly Wojciech Szczesny.
A player who no longer has a contract in 2026 and has no defined future is Eric Garcia. The Catalan paper explains that the club offers the 24-year-old defender a new deal. After Hansi Flikc convinced him to stay in January, he showed how useful he can be in defense and as an alternative in the central midfield. The Catalan side, however, remains unclear about his intentions, without certainty about his role next season.
Real Sociedad and Girona were two of the parties that loan Garcia in January, while Serie A Side Como also made an offer on Garcia. It also seems to be the case that Barcelona will sign another central defender, with Jonathan Tah heavily connected to a move to the Catalan giants.
If that were the case, Barcelona Inigo Martinez, Pau Cubarsi, Tah and Ronald Araujo would have on their books. If that were the case, Garcia would be the fifth option in the central defense, and possibly the fourth in midfield, after Frenkie de Jong, Marc Casado and Marc Bernal, who recovers from an injury. In that scenario, a movement seems like a more logical step.
