The rise of Raul Asencio has been a relief for Real Madrid this season and they have already been prepared to extend his stay in the first team, although those plans have been set for the time being.
Asencio left his mark in the team of Carlo Ancelotti in November. He was put into the line-up after Eder Militao had torn his front cruciate ligament for the second time in 15 months, and since he established his place, he never looked back.
Ancelotti counts on Asencio to start in large competitions, which is proof of the level that the 21-year-old played on. And recently he was rewarded with his first call-up for the Spanish national team, whereby he completely bypassed the U21s.
The next big milestone for Asencio after a possible Spain debut, which could happen on Sunday, would be his new Madrid contract. The parties would be in negotiations at an advanced stage, but Onda Cero (via Sport) has now reported that they have been suspended for the time being.
According to the report, the reason that conversations have stopped, so that Real Madrid can wait for the outcome of the legal issue in which Asencio is involved – he is accused of spreading a child pornography, which he publicly spoke about earlier this week.
Real Madrid is convinced that Asencio will be deleted, and if that turns out to be the case, they will continue to plans to offer the defender a new five -year contract. His current deal ends in the summer of 2026, and although they have no doubt about his dedication to the club, they want to remove any possible danger with regard to his future.
There is no doubt that Asencio has earned a new contract with Real Madrid, and soon both parties hope to resolve everything.
