Atletico Madrid will not be as big editions as 2024, but the transfer window of this summer still promises to be hectic for the Diego Simeone team. The idea is that different departure takes place, and in their place there can be very interesting signing sessions.
The big conversation point with regard to the window of Atleti will center around Antoine Griezmann. The leading goalscorer of the club has planned crunch conversations for later this month, and that time will be determined whether he is leaving the club but at this stage it seems more likely than not that he will continue.
If Athleti Griezmann loses, they have lost their most creative sparks – and that must be tackled. And they are planning to do that by signing Alex Baena, who has been one of the striking artists in La Liga since the beginning of last season.
Baena has been a creative force for Villarreal for the past 18 months. He usually occupies the left midfield position in the 4-4-2 system of Marcelino Garcia Toral, and if he moved to Athleti, he would be perfect for a similar role in the same formation that Simeone works.
According to Diario As, Athleti is becoming more and more convinced that they have to sign Baena this summer. He has a release clause of € 60 million, although Villarreal is said to be prepared to accept an offer in the region of € 50 million, which is an amount that various Premier League clubs would also like to pay.
Atleti could find it very difficult to convince Baena to make the switch to the Metropolitano this summer, given that clubs in the Premier League will offer more money to him and Villarreal. Nevertheless, they look ready to make a concrete attempt to secure another piece of Simeone's puzzle.
