Bellingham gives Liverpool ultimate compliment as he addresses Mbappe’s woes
Jude Bellingham admitted Real Madrid lost to “the best team in Europe” as Liverpool defeated the European champions.
The Reds are in sensational form this season and sit comfortably at the top of the Premier League. In the Champions League, they remain the only team to have a perfect record from five games and put in a statement performance to beat the Spanish giants.
Bellingham, Kylian Mbappé and co headed to Anfield, but were second for a long time as Liverpool secured a 2-0 win. Alexis Mac Allister scored the opener before Cody Gakpo made it safe late on. That came after Mbappé saved a penalty, while Mohamed Salah also missed from the spot.
Real have won three of their five Champions League games, but Bellingham admitted on his return to England that the transfer from Liverpool was 'no shame' as he currently labeled the Reds as Europe's most important team.
He told TNT Sports: “To be honest, from the first minute they just took control, we never maximized the spells we had in possession. We tried to force the counter too often, turned the ball over so many times that they just stood there.” I just think they were more into it than we were, which is really disappointing to say.
“It's probably a bad result against the best performing team in Europe, so there's no shame in coming here and losing, but we're disappointed with the way we performed. We have to use it in the right way, we We still have three games to go and it is important that we win them.”
Real have also been beaten by Lille and AC Milan in Europe this season and are in desperate need of results to ensure they reach the next stage of the competition. In the eyes of many, the signing of Mbappé would take Los Blancos to the next level.
The Frenchman has struggled with form since leaving Paris for Madrid and has been unable to produce when his team asks him to. Mbappe stepped up from twelve yards with the scoreline at 1-0 only to see Caoimhin Kelleher deny him, but Bellingham has absolved him of any blame.
“It's obviously a big moment in the game but it can happen. He's a great player but the pressure he exerts is enormous,” he said. “The penalty is not the reason we lost the match. As a collective we were not good enough tonight. Kylian can hold his head high, I am sure he will produce many more moments that are huge for this club.” .”
