Slot provides injury update on Konate and Bradley ahead of Man City showdown

Arne Slot has admitted that the injuries suffered by Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley during their Champions League win over Real Madrid are 'difficult to assess' just four days before their Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Liverpool sweated over the pair's fitness after Konate limped off after the final whistle of their 2-0 win, while Bradley appeared to pick up a hamstring injury in the 87th minute.

The Frenchman delivered another great performance on a glorious evening for Slot's side, who comfortably outclassed the defending champions at Anfield. But the victory, which left them the only side in the competition with a 100 percent record, came at a price paid just days before their clash with Pep Guardiola's side.

When asked if he knew the extent of their injuries, the Dutchman replied: 'No. Not yet. know where they are hurting, but it's hard to judge so close after the game.

“This is what happens in the season. This happens. I really hope they are both available to play [Sunday] But if not, then someone else has to step up and everyone has stepped up so far this season.”

Konate appeared close to tears after an encounter with Madrid striker Endrick left him needing help to leave the field after the final whistle.

The Reds will receive an out-of-control City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, where they want to be eleven points ahead of Guardiola's team after just thirteen games.

Konate, alongside captain Virgil van Dijk, has been a mainstay in the center of Liverpool's defense since his debut at half-time of the Reds' opening Premier League match against Ipswich.

Earlier, Bradley was forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring problem after an excellent display against Kylian Mbappe. The young defender, who replaced the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold, bullied the Madrid star and contributed to his nightmare night on Merseyside.

Alexander-Arnold was an unused substitute against the Spanish side on Wednesday evening and should be able to return for the match against the Premier League champions.

The Reds claimed their first win over the Spanish giants in 15 years thanks to second-half goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo.

Carlo Ancelotti's side had a chance to equalize after Mac Allister's opener when the referee pointed to the spot after a foul on Andy Robertson's Lucas Vazquez. But Caoimhin Kelleher equalized Mbappe's tame effort.

However, Mohamed Salah returned the favor just seven minutes later when he fired wide of the target before Gakpo's towering header secured the points the Anfield club deserved.

It leaves Madrid perilously close to disappearing from the qualification places as a third defeat in five Champions League games leaves them 24th in the standings. Liverpool, meanwhile, returned to the top of the table with their fifth win in as many games in the competition.
