Paul Merson slams Liverpool’s contract handling of Salah, Van Dijk, and TAA

In his last column, Paul Merson of Sky Sports believes that the treatment of Liverpool of Trent Alexander -Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah's contract situations are “criminal” – because all three are on the way to leave for free.

The future of Alexander-Arnold has been the most important subject of the past week, with conversations that progressed between the England International and Real Madrid about a free transfer.

With Van Dijk and Salah still to bind to new terms, read below for the thoughts of the Magic Man …

'I would buy Van Dijk and Salah about everyone'

I say it the past eight or nine months – I see none of Trent Alexander -Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk signing in Liverpool.

Because I just don't know why you would not have signed yet. Why would you lose £ 80,000 a week every week in the last 18 months?

I would be very shocked if they all stayed here. Unless Liverpool is willing to give them £ 30 million, £ 40 million in their bank account.

If Liverpool wants to continue to be successful and want to go again next year, they must love Dijk and Salah, assuming that Alexander-Arnold has already disappeared.

I think Van Dijk and Salah are the best in the company in their positions. If I could buy someone, I would buy them two.

If you lose Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, you will lose half of the rear four. And if you lose Salah, you lose 30 to 40 goals per season. Good luck finding them somewhere else.

If you come up with so much talent and be so good, you should never have less than two years, or two and a half years on your contract before they sit down and say: “We want to go again.”

And the only time that their contracts have to run out is when they are 33, 34, when nobody wants them.

In football terms it is criminal. It is criminal that you can drop three of the top players in the world of football, their contracts, and they can leave for absolutely nothing, go everywhere they want.

'Trent goes to a club just above Liverpool'

I find the Alexander-Arnold a stir surprising. He came through the ranks, he won everything there, he has not cost anything and he goes for nothing.

Other people were bought for £ 70 million and they go on free transfers. Nobody says a word.

At the end of the day, Liverpool had two or three years to resolve this contract. And try to solve it at six months is absolutely impossible.

So I don't know how Liverpool let it go. And I don't know too many players who will change Real Madrid if present.

He goes because it is Real Madrid. He does not fall down and goes for the money. He probably goes to a club just a bit above Liverpool.

Must -Win for Chelsea – but traces have Frankfurt in their thoughts

Tottenham is a must-win game for Chelsea.

Tottenham at home, Brentford Away and Ipswich at home. If they can get seven points from their next three games, they are in the top five with six games. It's in their hands.

Chelsea needs Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson at their best. However, I am not too busy about Noni Madueke. I am not his biggest fan in the world. But you have to let Jackson and Palmer shoot at all cylinders.

Spurs now has larger fish to bake, Chelsea's is not their biggest game. Frankfurt is huge for them.

It is all on the Europa League. If they won their last nine games of the season and are defeated by Frankfurt, it is a waste of time.

I don't know what Teams Ange Postecoglou will play from now on until that game. I know what I would do. I would let everyone rest or pack or play alone for certain parts of the game.

Tottenham -fans do not want their team to go to Stamford Bridge. They prefer to be defeated by Southampton than Chelsea, believe me.
