
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti testified on Wednesday morning in the court in Madrid, while defending his innocence in a tax fraud case compared to just over € 1 million. Despite a late night in the Copa del Rey, with the victory of Los Blancos over Real Sociedad ending nine minutes after the local time after midnight. Less than ten hours later he was in court.
Accompanied by partner Mariann Barrena McClay and son Davide Ancelotti, who was also next to him the previous night as part of his assistant manager, Ancelotti concluded a settlement with the persecution according to MD. Ancelotti claims that he is innocent, after being accused of incorrectly reporting his income in 2014 and 2015, with the total amount missing a little more than € 1 million in the tax office. The prosecutor is looking for a four -year sentence and nine months in prison for Ancelotti.
The case comes down to his image rights, part of two contracts that he signed as Real Madrid manager during his time there from 2013 to 2015, and whether he lived in Spain and should have been taxed in his last year there. Ancelotti gave 50% of his economic rights to a third company, Vapia, and was not charged with that income, although the Italian was adamant that he had no knowledge of misconduct.
“I was only concerned with collecting the € 6 million network for three years, and I never realized that anything was wrong, and I never received any communication that the office of the prosecutor was investigating me daily,” the Catalan quoted.
“When I'm here, it's because things are not done correctly,” he noticed. “Maybe I had a tax benefit, I don't know, I was interested in collecting the net amount.”
Ancelotti remained that neither Real Madrid nor his accountants advised him that something was wrong and he was not aware of any money that was cheated from the tax office.
The Real Madrid manager is the newest target in a series of high-profile tax affairs that are brought against football players and celebrities, with Iker Casillas, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and most recently Shakira with legal fights. Ancelotti also has many other things to worry about and recently spoke about worn out because of the tiring schedule that Real Madrid has this year.
