Ipswich boss McKenna: We can only control us

Kieran McKenna wants Ipswich Town to check what they can do because they want to insist on a remarkable rescue story.

The tractor boys, who are currently growing in 18th place, set up an impressive performance on Wednesday while defeating Bournemouth 2-1 in the Vitality Stadium.

Nathan Broadhead broke the impasse in the 34th minute with his first Premier League goal before Liam Delap continued his beautiful shape to double the benefit of Ipswich on the hour.

Evanilson came across a rebound to pont a goal for the Cherries, but the visitors held to seal their first competition win in 2025.

Ipswich then takes on Wolves in a huge collision. They are nine points behind the side of Vitor Pereira, which means that the victory would immediately throw them back in battle to stay up.

McKenna told Sky Sports: “Really proud, a little lighting after the last 10 minutes when everyone is so desperate to get the result over the line.

“Very proud of the performance in terms of how hard we worked, the quality of the goals we scored, part of our game and the resilience that we showed defensive.

“We have waited for a victory in the competition, which can happen, but everyone has been held, held. There is a lot of conviction and you can see solidarity in us as a team.

'Let's take a look. We can only control ourselves. In the last quarter of the season we want to make this the best quarter of our season. Where it leaves us, let's take a look.

“[Wolves] Are a team one position above us in the competition, we can only control our performance and let's hope we get that results. “

The Ipswich boss was also full of praise for Delap, who scored his 11th goal of the season.

Delap scored 36.7%of the Premier League goals from Ipswich in 2024-25 (11/30), with only Alexander Isak (41%), Mohamed Salah (39%) and Erling Haaland (36.8%) with a higher part of the objectives of their side equipment this term.

“A fantastic team movement, the goal of Delap is the best goal that someone will score [at the Vitality Stadium] This season, “said McKenna.

“[Bournemouth] are difficult to play against and continue playing. Liam took it in a usual way! “

As for Bournemouth, Andoni Iraola expressed frustration about the struggle on his side in the defense, with the Cherries now lost four of their last five Premier League matches.

“Now everything costs us a lot. We need a lot of opportunities to score goals,” he told Sky Sports, after he saw his team 24 shots and ended with 1.95 expected goals, while also saw a fine and then destroyed by VAR.

It worsened a tough week before the Iraola side, which were eliminated by Manchester City from the FA Cup during the weekend.

“If you are in a bad turn of results as we are now, everyone will go against you. Even the penalty is a bit outside, the deflections go for them, the clearance is off the line. But you have to persist,” Iraola added.

“For us it is a difficult result, but in the end we will continue to believe in our attacking players, support them more on the other side.

“But in the game today we can't admit two goals. If we can't score, end up with a clean slate. But don't give any goals.”
