Sean O’Malley gives up several vices as he promises ’70 percent better’ performance at UFC 316

Former UFC Bantamweight champion Sean O'Malley is going one step extra to prepare for the UFC 316 Main Event.

Sean O'Malley will seek revenge while preparing for the rematch of Merab Dvalishvili in the UFC 316 Main Event on 7 June in Newark. O'Malley returns to the Octagon after losing Dvalishvili on UFC 306 last September, which brings his Bantamweight title to an abrupt end.

Almost immediately after UFC 306, O'Malley called for a rematch and claimed that he was deprived of the score cards of the judges after losing a unanimous decision. Since then he has taken a long absence of competition to recover from a recent hip injury and to make many changes in his lifestyle for his UFC 316 -Vechtresurn.

But some of the changes O'Malley has made since the first fight with Dvalishvili go beyond the ins and outs of mixed martial arts.

During a recent episode of the Timbosugarshow, O'Malley explained to go Mia after the loss against Dvalishvili.

“I feel that many things that have changed in my life contribute to my performance,” said O'Malley. “For example, not being on social media. I decided in 2025 that I am done with social media. … I am not on social media, and I feel that that has changed my life. It is only three months ago, but I literally have the feeling that it has changed my life, and I feel that it plays a role in my performance. In the future.” (H/T MMA Junkie)

O'Malley then expanded the sacrifices that he brings for the Dvalishhvili -Rematch.

“I didn't have the carrot (masturbated) this year – not once in 2025,” said O'Malley. 'Did not have the carrot, I have not been social. … I didn't game either. I stopped gaming. I have done a lot of gaming, two or three hours a day, and I have to fill it with something. We played a lot of Texas Hold 'EM Poker with the boys. It's too nice. It's like gaming.

“I also stopped smoking weed. I just stopped randomly. I just didn't like how it felt me. I am not too much food. My sleep is better. … I am not ready for always smoking, but now I don't need the need, and I just don't want to desire. I feel it was good.”

Before the loss for Dvalishvili, O'Malley was almost unbeaten in his UFC official period, with recent victories over Aljamain Sterling and Marlon Vera. O'Malley remains one of the best pay-per-view stars in the UFC, but is confronted with a tough climb in his rematch against Dvalishhvili.

Sean O'Malley responds to criticism of UFC 316 title shot after one -sided defeat in the last fight

After Dvalishvili vs. O'Malley 2 was announced for the UFC 316 Headliner, fans had mixed reactions to the Rematch booking. Some vocal fans believe that O'Malley does not earn an immediate rematch after defending the belt once during his title government, an award dvalishvili matched by beating Umar Nurmagomedov on UFC 311.

Sterling was not immediately granted a rematch after a knockout defeat against O'Malley on UFC 292. After the title defeat, Sterling made the full-time switch to featherweight, won Calvin Kattar and fell to Movsar Evloev on UFC 310.

O'Malley has the chance to rectify not only the mistakes of his first collision with Dvalishvili, but also to show the improvements that he made during his long break. Time will learn or insist O'Malley's to make it immediately with Dvalishvili to flourish in positive results or turns out to be a huge mistake.
