Alan Shearer has a high opinion about the striker Liam Delap of Ipswich, and claims that the young person is a better attacker than all the options that Manchester United or Chelsea has
Alan Shearer has taken a praise for Ipswich Town star Liam Delap, who, according to him, is a level above the strikers that leads the border at both Manchester United and Chelsea. The English U21 striker enjoyed an impressive season on Portman Road and scored 11 Premier League goals for the wrestling side.
Nine points on drift of safety with eight games to go, a quick relegation back to the championship probably seems to be in front of Kieran McKenna, unless they conquer a winning formula until the end of the season, one that has to start with the visit from Wolves to Portman Road on Saturday.
Delap's £ 20 million switch to Ipswich from Manchester City Last summer, the reigning Premier League Champions Adieu saw to one of their graduates from the Academy. He followed the will of Jadon Sancho, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Cole Palmer as fellow youth to leave Etihad for regular playing time.
After just a year at the club, however, he was reserved for a second major move of his career by Shearer, even if Ipswich succeeds in retaining their Premier League status. “Ipswich fans don't want to hear it, but it is inevitable that he will be linked to massive football clubs because he is a really good talent,” the Newcastle icon told Betfair.
“They are on something special his pwich. They put their necks on the game and paid the money for him and they did very well with him. Delap noticed this season, which unfortunately means that he will attract the attention of the big clubs.
“It will be very difficult for Ipswich to hold it, especially because they are degraded, as expected.
With several large batters of the competition who will probably focus on a number nine in the summer, Delap certainly did justice in his debut season in the top flight of England. He has done so well that Shearer believes that his quality surpasses the forward options that Ruben Amorim and Enzo Maresca have at their disposal.
“Big clubs will watch him because I think he has something about him,” he added. “He has an arrogance about him, which I really like and he has an aura.
“He has already been associated with a number of clubs in the Premier League and looks at whom he is connected, I think he can go inside and recommend a starting role, because he is better than everything that is the man in front.
“He is also better than everything Chelsea has come in front, so the answer is simple – yes, he would start for those clubs.” Despite the farewell of Mays of Delap, Guardiola admitted that he always knew that his former player was destined to succeed in the Premier League.
“He is doing very well,” said the city boss in January about Delap. “Many players came from this academy. They are perfectly set up in the Premier League.
“When he was here, we always thought he was a typical striker for the Premier League. He is doing very well and we are happy for him.”
A reported clause in Delap's current contract states that he can leave for £ 40 million if Ipswich is indeed relegated. And it is difficult to imagine that it is not activated, where United has the chance to get one on their neighbors -although a potential drill -back clause could be muddy.
