Amorim’s second-half subs pay off as Utd see out win with very daring tactics

RUBEN AMORIM's crazy substitutions in the second half paid off as Manchester United defeated Bodo/Glimt.

The Portuguese manager is in charge of his first match in the Europa League at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.

Amorim, 39, saw his team make another fast start as Alejandro Garnacho scored the opening goal in just 48 SECONDS.

However, just like against Ipswich Town, Man United struggled to maintain their lead.

The visitors hit back with goals from Hakon Evjen and former Nottingham Forest loanee Philip Zinckernagel to take the lead.

Rasmus Hojlund scored the equalizer for the hosts in the 45th minute, but Amorim still made the changes in the second half.

Diogo Dalot replaced Tyrell Malacia at half-time and took the spot on the left of the defense.

After Hojlund scored the go-ahead with a brilliant finish in the 50th minute, Amorim made more changes to his backline.

Luke Shaw replaced Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro was sent on in place of Matthijs de Ligt.

As a result, the Red Devils did not have a recognized central defender on the field.

Out of possession, the team switched to a back four of Dalot, Shaw, Casemiro and Noussair Mazraoui.

The crazy substitution worked for the team as it stifled the Eliteserien team's attack.

Man United held on to claim their first win under Amorim and lift themselves to twelfth in the Europa League stage.

Post-match heat maps showed the players being given unique roles.

Martinez and Mazraoui could be seen bombing the wings up and down.

Bruno Fernandes was mainly deployed on the left side of the attack, while Mason Mount had responsibility on the right side.

Meanwhile, despite scoring a crucial brace, Amorim decided to criticize Hojlund after the match.

The manager insisted the striker “needs to improve” and claimed he was making “too many” touches on the ball.

Amorim also made a bold decision before the match by removing two names from his team sheet.

He opted to only put ten substitutes on the bench, despite being given twelve.
