Paul Scholes was not afraid this season to keep the boot on Manchester United.
So much so that a player called him about his criticism.
Scholes revealed about the overlapping Fandebat via Sky Bet that an unnamed united man took matters into his own hands – and contacted the negative press.
The legendary midfielder, 50, said: “Players can be a bit sensitive these days.
“This year I had a player who contacted me and was not happy with some things I had said.
“He wanted to meet me on the training field.
“I said,” Of course no problem, “and gave him my number, but he never came back to me.
“I would have done it. If I say things I believe and he wants me to explain why, it would not have been a nice conversation.
“But I said that if they or someone else have a problem, there is my telephone number.”
Scholes did not say who the Irked Red Devils player was – but there is no shortage of people at Old Trafford that he beat this season …
August 2024 – Andre Onana
Before the season even started, Scholes stacked himself in United – and Andre Onana was the first man to be caught in his sights.
Scholes: “I have heard a lot of United fans say how enthusiastic they are for the new season … I am struggling with that.
“The keeper is a great concern for me. Even in the preseason with some of the goals he has admitted. I am worried about death about him.”
August 2024 – Matthijs de Ligt
United brought defender Matthijs de Ligt for £ 42 million – and it is safe to say that Scholes was not convinced in view of his lack of minutes for Bayern Munich last season.
Scholes: “We are talking about players who cannot get into their team.
“He doesn't play for Bayern, that must be a great concern, especially when Eric Dier plays for him. That is a huge concern for me.”
September 2024 – Matthijs de Ligt
It was not long before the club icon continued the Ligt Rant and thinks that Erik ten Hag desperately replaced Harry Maguire.
Scholes: “He couldn't wait to get the Ligt straight for Maguire, he just waited for the chance.
“And look, to be honest, I'm not sure if it's such an upgrade.
“He may be a little better, but he is not a huge improvement where you think:” Wow. “
October 2024 – New signing sessions
He destroyed the “ridiculous” transfer strategy of the club – and mentioned five flop arrangements.
Scholes: “Zirkzee, what is he? Is he a NO9 or a NO10? Is he going to get you 20 goals? I don't think so.
“Rasmus Hojlund is doing well – but is he going to score 20 goals? I don't think so.
“I think they are more trust in hope than the actual proven quality and they have spent so much money.
“It is a ridiculous amount of money and some of them cannot enter the team.
“You think Ugarte enters the club, which had to change midfield, ten hag didn't play him.
“De Ligt, £ 50 million and he didn't play him. Jonny Evans came in 36 years old instead of him.
“Martinez, ten Hag brought him into the club. What should he think? Jonny Evans plays, Harry Maguire started, Victor Lindelof stands up for him.”
October 2024 – Erik Ten Hag
It was not only the players who felt the heat of Scholes, who also went to Ten Hag just before his looting.
Scholes: “There has been no improvement.
“I think that is the biggest disappointment with two and a little years later, a lot of money was spent and we see no improvement.
“You would like to think that they are now to challenge them. The top three teams I know, Liverpool, City and Arsenal are ahead of most other teams.
“You would like to see that they even get a little closer, but it doesn't feel that way.”
January 2025 – Kobbie Mainoo
After a few quieter months when Ruben replaced Amorim ten Hag, Scholes continued his attack in the new year by asking questions about the fitness levels of Kobbie Mainoo.
Scholes: “Mainoo with his legs must be a concern.
“He doesn't finish many games.”
January 2025 – Man Utd Squad
Scholes then focused on almost the entire team – because only three heeled in a game of “Keep of Sell”.
Mainoo, Onana and Alejandro Garnacho avoided the ruthless tidy, but the rest were asked.
Scholes said that Luke Shaw and Mason Mount are “never fit”, Casemiro is past his best and defenders De Ligt and Lisandro Martinez can go.
For Antony, Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford, Scholes simply replied: “Selling.”
January 2025 – Marcus Rashford
Rashford took a lot of anti -aircraft weather and outside the club prior to his loan movement to Aston Villa – and Scholes did not hide.
Scholes: “I think Marcus has abandoned many people with his attitude.
“He is 27, he clearly does not train well, he does not live his life well.
“In a sense, he says that he does not want to be involved with the team and the fact that he abandons his teammates, he must be banned from the dressing room.”
February 2025 – Ruben Amorim & Patrick Dorgu
Patrick Dorgu only arrived in the January transfer window, but it was not long before Scholes's attention had to be defender when United Leicester played in the FA Cup.
He apparently took a sarcastic wipe to Amorim and played the Danish full-back out of position.
A non-impression of Scholes posted on Instagram: “Reverse wingbacks … you saw it [Old Trafford] First.”
March 2025 – Alejandro Garnacho
Scholes selected Garnacho for criticism after the Argentinian winger threw a noose when he was replaced by Ipswich.
Scholes: “He looked like he was a bit of a mocking for me.
“Garnacho's greatest strength continues. Sometimes he makes the wrong decisions, but he had a lack of energy and a little silver.
“He will have to get better because they don't really have anything else to call.”
March 2025 – Sir Jim Ratcliffe
And the 11 Premier League winner even took a swing with owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe about the ambitious £ 2 billion new stadium plans.
Scholes: “You can sometimes be gullible and believe what he says, just because you've never heard anyone say anything before. You don't know how realistic it is, it's all in the air.
“Words are cheap, and we can say something about everyone, you can say that we will have the largest and best stadium in 10 years.
“For a long time we have been called the richest club in the world, but I have the feeling that we beg a little, ask the stadium and that we need £ 2 billion and sell players to buy players.”
