Liverpool has been defended about the long-term contractsaga around Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, with their deals in the summer
A former Premier League star has rejected suggestions that Liverpool is to blame for the continuous contract situation with regard to three of their most important players. Reds Trio Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all without contract in the summer, with conversations about new terms that reach an impasse.
Alexander-Arnold is said to tend to move to Real Madrid, while the future of Salah remains unclear. However, Liverpool was offered at least one spark of hope, as Van Dijk on Sunday revealed that there was “progress” about his contract negotiations.
The hierarchy of the Reds has been criticized in some circles to continue the distance with the trio for so long. Ex-manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster, however, claims that there is no chance that the club did not try to bind them to new deals well before their end of their contracts. Foster, who also played for England and Wrexham, continued by saying that the players would “lie” if they would otherwise suggest.
Speaking on his fozcast podcast, the 42-year-old said: “Many fans of Liverpool said [to the club]”How have you managed to let Alexander Arnold go in recent months?” Nobody knows what conversations were going on.
“I guarantee you, with all the players who have not had a contract, with two years to go, the club approached them and said,” Let's sort a new contract “. If one of those three players comes out and say they didn't, they lyes.”
Van Dijk has offered the clearest sign that he will sign a new deal and will commit his future to Anfield after this summer. The Reds captain, who will be 34 in July, would want an extension of two years, whereby Liverpool would like the conditions with him.
In a chat after the game after the 3-2 loss of his team at Fulham, Van Dijk said: “There is progress, yes. I don't know, we will see. Listen, these are internal discussions and we will see.
“I love the club, I love the fans and they were there for us again and we wanted to reward them in Fulham. But I want them to be against West Ham on Sunday and make the stadium a great location as always for us.”
The update will be music for the ears of Liverpool boss Arne Slot prior to the Premier League run-in while haunting a record-similar 20th title. Although a formal decision still has to be communicated, there is more and more speculation that Alexander-Arnold will move to Spain after Real Madrid has performed their efforts to sign him during the international break.
The reports have led to anger among fans of Liverpool, who are unhappy with the prospect of losing the right back. But Foster said that supporters should investigate the situation of the 26-year-old side of the fence.
He said: “Look at the perspective of Trent-Hij, will become a member of a football club that he knows every year, without a doubt, will be in the top two in Spain and will at least be in the quarterfinals or semi-final of the Champions League.
“That Real Madrid team is probably the best team in the world at the moment. They have a young team that you think will flourish in the next five or ten years. He will join a club that will win things, but then you also have to look at the finances involved.”
He added: “If he joins Real Madrid, he goes on a free transfer and can get a signature, which will be astronomical. You talk more than £ 50 million, plus £ 220,000 a week. That kind of money is phenomenal.”
In the meantime, Liverpool hope to reach a resolution with Salah who would see the attacker expand his eight -year stay in Anfield. This season, the Egyptian scored 32 goals for the Reds in all competitions – including 27 in the Premier League.
