Kompany urges calm as Bayern Munich lose at home to Inter Milan

Inter won the first leg of their quarterfinals 2-1 on Tuesday evening, with the goals of Lautaro Martinez and Davide Frattesi who the efforts of Thomas Muller Sandwichen.

Kompany said afterwards: “We started the game well, we dominated the game in the first 30 minutes and could have scored one or two goals, maybe even more.

“When we were dominant in the second half, we created opportunities, but in the end we know that Thomas always plays an important role.

“When he came up, he found the equalizer. We prepared ourselves as well as possible for this match, and every decision was based on football reasons.

“Inter was very strong today, we missed Musiala: with Guerreiro in his position we wanted to find the right balance. We need every player to achieve our goals, and I think Guerreiro did a good job today, just like Muller. Many players played well, only the result was not good.

“I don't always want to talk about injuries, but we have five or six. I had these players available and also made the replacements about the return bone. Kim had a yellow card, and that is an aspect to consider.”

Kompany was optimistic on the second leg in Milan.

“I've said it often, if we have to defend, we defend,” he went on.

“Today, when we had to do it, we didn't give much away to the opponent. We could have done it better, but our opponent was strong. We could have scored more early, but this gives us hope about Milan's thinking.

“There are times when you lose the focus and they benefited from one.

“We have lost 2-1, and I cannot change that result, but it would not be good to think that this 2-1 was due to our inability to win this game, that is not what happened tonight. The result says Inter, we will see next week.”
