Marcus Rashford has been in good shape for Aston Villa since he was on loan from Manchester United, but a former Red Devils star has doubts about his long-term suitability
Ex-manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has doubts about the fit of Marcus Rashford for Aston Villa in the long term. The attacker has been in good shape since his February switch, scored three goals and offers four assists in 12 games.
Villa was able to move United permanent for £ 40 million in the summer after his impressive run earned him a place in the first selection of Thomas Tuchel by Thomas Tuchel. Nevertheless, Foster has concerns about Rashford that is in line with the strategy of Unai Emery and the requirements of work ethics.
Foster shared his fear after the replacement appearance of Rashford in Villas 2-1 victory against Nottingham Forest.
Speaking on his podcast 'Fozcast', the former England and Wrexham Stopper said: “I don't know if Rashford is going to be the answer. When he recently entered the forest game, they were 2-0 at the time and I thought,” What would Rashford's objectives be here? “
“I think if Emery turned on him, he would have said:” On the right Marcus, we are 2-0 and Forest had some good chances in that first half. I need you to grab the ball for me. I need you to try to get it down and get us on the field. “
“There were a few times that they went to him, and he was not willing to put his head above it. He is not willing to be physically injured and the ball just came back.”
While Rashford looked much improved during his loan spell, Ruben Amorim does not seem to regret it. Last week he only seemed to question Rashford's dedication, which means that Marcus could reach the highest level “if he wants”.
Amorim said: “I know Rashford is very good and everyone knows the talent he has. He is a top player – if he wants [to be]. So I am not surprised. It is good that we see our players well loan in a different context. I am planning the future, but I don't want to talk about the future at the moment. I just want to concentrate at stake. “
And Rashford's current boss Unai Emery gave insight into whether the club intends to keep him for the long term. Speaking after Villa's victory in the FA Cup against Preston, he said: “Not yet … A decision about every individual player, it is to get the best of them and the best of us. We don't want to waste time on it.”
More comments from Emery have emerged about Rashford's current situation this week. He said: “He is a good guy, he is modest, he is a very good professional player, he is really happy with his teammates, he has himself in everything. We want to work with him, with the team.
“I think he plays freely, he plays comfortably, and this is the most important thing. We first try to make contact with him as a person, and then to connect with him as a player.”
He added: “We see him smiling, it's the best news we can have. I see him happy, I see him commit to everything we do.”
