Prince William was present with Prince George during the Aston Villa match against Paris Saint-Germain when his side fell to defeat, but the royal impressed his own display
Prince William left football fans and experts surprised with his impressive assessment of the Champions League collision of Aston Villa against Paris Saint-Germain. The next in line to the throne was present in Paris when the side of Unai Emery fell to beat in the Parc des Princes.
William looked up with his son, George, while Villa took the lead by Morgan Rogers before three stunning goals from the hosts made sure that the Premier League side was left with a huge task for the second stage of the quarterfinals. It was certainly not the score that the Prince of Wales hoped for after predicting a 2-1 win for Underdogs.
Although Villa could not make too much on the draw, 42-year-old William left his own stamp before a ball was kicked in the French capital. With a gray beard and the already impressive of TNT experts with his smart clothing, William revealed that his knowledge of the beautiful game is real.
“We all saw the Liverpool game and the intensity of PSG,” he told former football players Rio Ferdinand and Ally McCoist. “In the first stage they were incredible, they gave a lot of pressure, they pressed very high.
“For Unai tonight and the team, it's about managing that press. Unai likes it when teams come on them and play a fairly high press, but there is a limit. Can we bypass the press? Can we beat it?
“I am thinking a bit of a long ball, I also think how they will bypass the high press. It will be a challenging night and I look forward to the tactics that Unai will have to hire.”
Former Manchester United star was impressed by what he heard and was worried about his work. The ex-central defender said: “Don't go for a punditry track, please because I could be out of the game. The way he just dissected that there, I go for that later.”
Fans on social media were just impressed. An X user said: “William speaks extremely well here. I knew he supported Villa, I didn't quite realize how much he really loved the game until he looked. Topman.”
“Prince William is a really good expert, he is articulated, intelligent and really well informed about football,” said another. A further user added: “Jezo never thought I would hear Prince William talking carefully about football with knowledge of the game and tactics. Very cool!”
William could see and embrace before the game before the game, such as Marco Asensio and England International Marcus Rashford when they came out of the dressing room. He also revealed that he was wearing his 'happy clothing' to watch his beloved villa, although this time they did not have the desired effect.
This season was a regular participant of Villa's European trip, who also took the famous victory over Bayern Munich in Birmingham and the competition with Monaco. The hardcore fan will now hope that his side can turn it around, with the last European success of the team a month before he was born in 1982.
The prince has supported Villa since his school days and does not want to follow the crowd around him who supported Manchester United and Chelsea. “Long ago I came to school in football,” he told the BBC in 2015.
“I was looking for clubs. All my friends at school were fans of Man United of Chelsea fans and I didn't want to follow the run of the mill teams. I wanted a team that was more halfway the table that could give me more emotional roller coaster moments.”
William will not force his children in the same decision, but brought his family to Villa Park and behind it would be no surprise if they did. “I am generally very open to whom they support, but I am clearly a bit biased,” he said on TNT.
“But they also come to games with Villa. They will probably support Villa, but I have left the other two at home, probably watching tonight, so we will wait and see who supports them.”
