Former Barcelona and Spain -defender Gerard Pique gave his testimony in court last week, while defending himself against an alleged corruption -declared in the mediation of a deal between Saudi -Aarabia and the Royal Spanish football federation (RFEF) to bring the Spanish supercup to the middle east. Pique made the headlines because they reportedly break down in tears, something confirmed by the release of audio from the case.
Before the judge closed the session in which Pique was put in the stands, the World Cup winner asked if he could say something at the end of the procedure. The 38-year-old struggled to stop the emotions, with El Periodico de Espana releasing the audio of the court.
“It is very frustrating; we have been dealing with this case for three years. I really believe that we have offered invaluable value to the Spanish Federation, the greatest contract in its history.”
“Then, well, I understand perfectly that in Spain people can see the issue of Saudi Aarabia somehow, and I don't want to comment on that,” he told the court, while his voice began to break.
Ironically, one of his complaints was the consistent leakage of documents and details of the legal proceedings, which was continued in this case.
“But we have been working on it for three years … In terms of the press, in this entire process, you cannot imagine the impact it has on the constant of your name in something that … in another country in the world, I mean, and I don't want to praise myself, they would draw up a statue for you, it is a huge contribution of value.”
“And I am surprised that even today, three years later, things continue to leak day after day in this procedure, which I believe is disrespectful. But in the end we submitted several documents yesterday, and they leaked hours later, and the sound starts all over again. In the end this will come to an end, and this will end and this will end.
Pique's events and entertainment activities Kosmos was the intermediary in the deal between the RFEF and Saudi Arabia and received a committee of approximately € 4 million for their contribution. However, after the Saudi investment fund did not pay for Kosmos, the RFEF and then President Luis Rubiales would have been intervened to guarantee the payment for cosmos, which is the core of the case.
