Cantona launches attack on Ratcliffe & Ineos ‘trying to destroy everything’

Eric Cantona claims that Manchester United has lost his soul when he signed his entire family as shareholders in Rebel Club FC United.

The French legend was back in the city during the weekend and took on the disappointing aimless derby against City.

But he also announced his feelings by agreeing to becoming co-owner of FC United of Manchester-during while he acquires shares for his four children and two brothers.

Cantona fired another explosion on the new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe for some of the decisions he made since he moved the club in the club early last year.

He claims that the Ineos owner and his team try to “destroy everything” and has destroyed the decision to get rid of Old Trafford.

Cantona, 58, said: “I support United because I really love United, but now if I was a fan and I had to choose a club, I don't think I would choose United.

“For me that is very important to respect these people like you respect your manager and your teammates.

“I think since Ratcliffe it has arrived the opposite and this team of directors are trying to destroy everything and they do not respect anyone.

“They even want to change the stadium.

“The soul of the team and the club is not in the players. All people in the area are like a large family.

“I don't feel close to this kind of decisions. They have a different strategy, another project. Do you feel close to this project? I don't think so.”

Cantona – who spent five shimmering years in Old Trafford – says that it is now almost unrecognizable from the club he knew.

He said: “I remember a dressing room with players and Sir Alex Ferguson, all these people you don't know who helped us feel at home and to be in a family.

“I think it is very important to respect these people like you respect your manager and teammates.

“Since Ratcliffe arrived, it has been the opposite. He no longer wants Sir Alex Ferguson to be more as an ambassador. He is more than a legend and I think we should find this soul again.

“This team of directors are trying to destroy everything. They don't respect anyone.

“They even want to change the stadium.”

Last month it arose that United has drawn up plans for a new £ 2 billion 'New Trafford' in the shadow of the Theater van Dreams.

The hope is that it can be ready in just over five years – but Cantona is not impressed by the proposals.

He said: “The stadium is iconic. For me, Arsenal lost their souls when they left Highbury and I am sure that many fans are missing Highbury.

“It's like going into a house and feel a special energy. Can you imagine that Liverpool is playing in another stadium than Anfield?

“It is impossible. I don't think United can play in a different stadium than Old Trafford.

“But I think we might be dreamers and that they are more on an economy and a strategy. I hate things like this. I hate this kind of decisions.”

Cantona revealed that he offered the new regime help to restore United in his former glory – but they didn't keep him busy with it.

He said: “I work a lot with making films and TV series. I started a long time ago when I left football.

“I will photograph films until the end of October of this year, but I told them that I can place that (aside) and more concentrated and help you rebuild something.

“And they don't care. I too, because I work. I don't ask anything. But I feel sad to see United in these situations.

“So, for me and the respect for myself, I had to do it and I did it, and they didn't care and I didn't care. They decided something else. They have a different strategy, another project.”
