New Red Devils Gaffer Ruben Amorim would be concerned about Onana's inconsistency between the sticks and weighs a new stop in the summer.
And according to reports, he would like to bring Brighton's Verbruggen to Old Trafford.
According to Gazetta Dello Sport, who claims United has contacted the Meeuwen about the availability of the Dutchman.
However, United will be confronted with fierce competition for the services of the 22-year-old.
German giants Bayern Munich reportedly want to sign him.
The Telegraph claims that the Bundesliga Big Boys weigh an attempt to bring the £ 60 million stopper to the Allianz Arena.
This season, Verbruggen has made 33 performances for Brighton in all competitions, which keeps eight clean sheets in the process.
