KSI and AnEsonGib clash after YouTube star offers farcical commentary on former friend’s Misfits Boxing debut win
Following the main event of Misfits Boxing's Qatar 'Super Card', tensions were still high at the top of the promotion.
Misfits founder and fighter KSI appears to have had a feud with his former friend AnEsonGib, who was fighting in the main event. During the build-up he made his support for Gib's opponent Slim Albaher crystal clear, and did the same on commentary during the fight itself.
Fans were very angry about the commentary behavior, emphasizing that it took away from KSI's farcical prejudices. But it appears to have been a creative choice, spawning a storyline about the two having been close since they started their boxing journey together over six years ago.
KSI rages at ringside as AnEsonGib defeats Slim Albaher
During a number of key Thursday night fights, KSI took over the commentary desk to build up Misfits Boxing's bigger names. He giggled at ringside when his brother Deji landed a phantom KO over Dawood Savage, and seemed like a welcome addition to the desk.
But during the main event, his seemingly random newfound hatred for AnEsonGib took over as he obsessively hated his performance. Albaher started the better of the two, with KSI claiming to have won almost all the early rounds.
Fellow commentators Ben Davis, Riley Osbourne and KSI's Misfits co-founder Mams Taylor all tried to call the action a legitimate fight. But they were often drowned out by the reactions of their British counterparts.
Ultimately, KSI had to accept defeat as his lopsided scorecards were rendered useless when Gib won a narrow majority decision. In the immediate aftermath, Taylor then named Gib Fighter of the Night, which comes with an additional $20,000 bonus, much to the chagrin of his business partner.
The feud between KSI and AnEsonGib continues during the post-fight press conference
Tensions seemed far from thawed after that, as KSI continued to berate Gib during the post-fight press conference. The pair clashed over a possible fight between the two, which the Misfits boss said could only happen if his rival defeated Salt Papi or Anthony Taylor.
“They said this was called Misfits, but this looked more like a mismatch,” Gib teased his rival after arriving late to the post-fight media event. “I smoked it, so here we go. We brought their belt with us, this will be a nice door stopper and we are going to enjoy it.”
KSI was clearly annoyed when he was forced to say “Fair play, brother” before attacking Gib and calling himself “the best.” “I mean, you saw what Salt Papi did,” KSI teased, asking how long he had to stay awake.
When Seconds Out's Ayman Khan asked where Gib is in the scene now, KSI seemed even more irritated and snapped back, “What do you want me to say?” Number one? He is number one.”
