Roy Keane WILL be part of Sky punditry team for Liverpool’s clash with Man City
Roy Keane will be at Anfield for Sky Sports on Sunday, Mail Sport understands.
The former Manchester United captain was involved in a heated on-pitch argument with Ipswich supporters last weekend, with the broadcaster launching an investigation into what happened.
Keane responded to brutal taunts from some of the fans at Portman Road, where he once managed, before offering to meet a supporter in the car park.
Sky bosses then spoke to Keane and other attendees, including presenter Kelly Cates, Jamie Redknapp and Izzy Christiansen, to establish what had happened.
They remained tight-lipped about the outcome of their investigation, although they are known to have been sympathetic to the situation Keane found himself in, alongside claims that some fans 'consistently overstepped their mark'.
Following the latest incident, concerns had grown that Keane, who has spoken of his desire to no longer be a pundit in 12 months' time, could be nearing the end of his time in the studio. During a match at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium last season, he was headbutted by a fan, who was eventually taken to court and subsequently referred to the incident in a podcast. “Do you think I enjoy that side?” he asked. 'Absolutely not.'
Keane, 53, is contracted for around 20 Super Sundays per season and there was uncertainty over whether he would be part of the Anfield line-up.
However, sources have now revealed that, barring a late withdrawal, the Irishman will be in Liverpool for the crucial Premier League clash.
As Mail Sport reported, Sky will not increase security following the Ipswich incident. They carry out a risk assessment before every match and it is believed that, as is the norm for major matches, there will be bodyguards on site on Sunday to ensure the safety of their experts.
Keane is joined by former United teammate Gary Neville, ex-Liverpool duo Jamie Carragher and Daniel Sturridge and former Manchester City defender Micah Richards.
