Bayern edge ahead of Real Madrid in the race for Florian Wirtz

Although the numbers at the Bernabéu are not correct, the Germans are prepared to do everything they can for the Leverkusen star. Xabi is the key to his future.

The future of Florian Wirtz remains one of the biggest unknowns in the transfer market. Although the Bayer Leverkusen star has a contract until 2027, his possible departure in 2025 has attracted interest from several of Europe's most powerful clubs.

Among them Real Madrid, who were considered Bayern Munich's main rival in the battle for the Germany international. But the Spanish giants have fallen off the pace, according to The Athletic, with Leverkusen demanding more than 100 million euros (about $1.05 million) for the 21-year-old striker – a figure that significantly complicates Madrid's aspirations.

The Wirtz fee exceeds Madrid's budget

But despite rumors that Real Madrid may have withdrawn from the race, their interest in Wirtz remains, especially considering the player's own wishes will also play a major role in his next move.

In addition, there is always the possibility that Xabi Alonso will return to his old club next year to take over from Carlo Ancelotti. As Carletto's successor, Xabi would play a key role in negotiations to land Wirtz, who has been decisive for Leverkusen under the Basque coach. The only other hurdle would be Wirtz's fee and whether the Spanish club would be willing to pay it.

Bayern's plan to make room for Wirtz

Meanwhile, Bayern is not letting its guard down and plans to make a significant effort to unite Wirtz with his friend Jamal Musiala, creating the 'Wusiala' duo that is making waves in the German national team.

The ever-solvent Germans' plan would involve firing at least one of the team's top earners, such as Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry or Leroy Sané, in order to land Wirtz and balance their books.

But despite the fact that the figures are not correct a priori, Real Madrid will continue to keep a close eye on a player who is very popular in the White House.
