Fans split over Rashford’s behavior toward staff in Bodo/Glimt game
Marcus Rashford has received mixed reactions after a clip of the Manchester United striker coming on as a substitute against Bodo/Glimt went viral.
Rashford, 27, has had a positive week after scoring the first goal of the Ruben Amorim era against Ipswich on Sunday, with the England star netting after just 80 seconds.
The striker, who is keen to return to the form that saw him score 30 goals in the 2022/2023 season, was preferred in attack over Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee at Portman Road.
He was then rested from the starting XI by Amorim for United's Europa League match against the Norwegian side on Thursday evening.
Rashford was introduced off the bench for Mason Mount after 59 minutes as the former Chelsea star continues to build his fitness after several injury problems over the past year.
However, in a clip circulating on social media as Rashford prepared to come on, Amorim could be seen telling the striker to take off his gloves.
In response, Rashford appeared to throw his gloves on the ground, leaving a staff member to pick them up.
It is unclear whether Rashford had seen the coach as he tried to get into the zone before entering the pitch.
Nevertheless, some fans were not really impressed with the attacker and expressed their displeasure with his behavior.
One said: 'Wages need to be fixed. Poor guy picking his gloves off the floor while standing an arm's length away.
'Who does he think he is? Maybe I'm out of touch with this, but those are just the literal basics, right?'
Another fan intervened and said: 'I thought this was going to be another pointless dig at Rashford but this is a joke from him.'
An additional person added: “No one should do that though. Not just Rasford. Nobody.'
However, others insisted too much was expected from the incident and backed Rashford.
“Does a match day go by without people forcing Rashford into controversy?” said one. 'By far the most talked about player on this app right now.'
Another said: 'Rashford's micro-analysis is becoming boring, repetitive and predictable.'
'This might be the most nothing video ever. All to hate Rashford,” another fan posted, before an additional supporter said: “Stop trying to make something out of nothing. Should Salah be paid a week's wages for unnecessarily calling out his owners?'
Meanwhile, Amorim on Wednesday outlined his desire to help Rashford return to his best during his tenure.
Rashford scored 30 goals in Erik ten Hag's first season at United in 2022/23, but that dropped to eight last season and he has scored four times in the current season.
“I'll try to help him,” Amorim said. 'That position (forward) is not the best for him, especially in a game like that (against Ipswich).
'We have to kick with high pressure, we have to kick the ball so often, it was like fighting two giants.
'We will try to find the right solution for him, just like for the other players. But he has to be Marcus first and foremost, to try to get back to that moment and then he will get all the help from the staff, the club and the fans because he is a Manchester United boy. But he has to be the first to want it.'
United are back in action on Sunday when they host Everton at Old Trafford, with Amorim's side currently six points clear of the top four.
