Real Madrid was well beaten over both feet by Arsenal, and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was not a fan of what he saw from the players in white shirts for him
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was critical of the performance of his teammates when the Champions League holders crashed to Arsenal.
The Gunners protected the 3-0 lead that they held against the first stage in the Emirates Stadium, and they would have extended that benefit in the Bernabeu in the first period if Courtois had not saved the weak Panenka-Penalty of Bukayo Saka.
Saka, however, would open the score on the night when he finished smartly past Courtois in the mid -second period, shortly before Vinicius JR really withdrew one after an error by William Saliba.
Real then insisted on another goal to try to force an unlikely comeback, but Arsenal kept them on an arm length and won the game in the night when Gabriel Martinelli Racet racet to shoot home in a stop time.
Courtois admitted that Arsenal deserved to win the two legs, but was angry with the displays of the players in white shirts for him.
After the game spoken to the Spanish media, the Belgian keeper said: “During the break we thought that if we had scored the first goal, the draw would have been open, they eventually thought the first goal, we quickly bound it, you continue to believe, but we were not successful, I don't think (David) Raya should make a single big save.
“Ultimately, they are a team that defends well, is well organized, press well and it is difficult to find space. We have put a lot of crosses, but this year we don't have a Joselu, a natural striker in front.
“We have to carefully analyze what we can do better. We have a lot of season for us, we have the competition on the line, the cup in ten days and then the club World Cup. We thank the fans. Thinking of a comeback was great, and I hope we can bring them some joy this season.”
Veteran Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti comes under increasing pressure in Madrid, but Courtois insisted that the Italian maintains the full support of the team, adding the goalkeeper to it: “There is no problem there, we have no doubts about the manager.
To the media after the game, the Italian boss Ancelotti said: “The team tried. We couldn't change things. Arsenal deserves it.
When he was pressed on his role, Ancelotti added: “My future? I don't know, and I don't want to know.
“We have come a fantastic way over the years. Let's see what will happen next year. I don't know what will happen and I don't want to know. There is time for this.”
