‘Walk away’ … UFC legend who almost tapped Jon Jones warns against Tom Aspinall fight

One of the greatest enemies of Jon Jones does not want to see him a chance at Tom Aspinall.

At 17 years, UFC heavyweight champion Jones is approaching the end of his illustrious run in the Octagon with his 'Swan Song' to be sung.

Jones locked his first heavyweight title defense on UFC 309 last November, where he sent former champion Stipe Miocic to retirement with a rotating shovel to the body.

Jones could quickly go to retirement at Miocic, that is, if he does not unite the title against interim champion Tom Aspinall.

Fans have been shouting for more than 500 days for the heavyweight superfight between Jones and Aspinall, so many wonder whether Jones will accept the challenge of the younger, hungry champion.

Vorror Belfort hopes that Jon Jones will retire 'undefeated'

Jones the obvious A-side with all his praise, former UFC champion Vorror Belfort advises his former rival to walk away from Aspinall while he can still.

“He doesn't have to prove anything against anyone,” said Belfort about Jones in an interview with Helen Yee.

'He is always someone who wants to prove [I can beat this guy].

“I would like to see that he is running away the way he is. I don't want to see him losing the fight. Some people want to see him lose the fight. I want to see Jon run unbeaten.”

Technically, Jones is not undefeated with his only loss in 30 pro fights a disqualification for Matt Hamill in 2009 for illegal 12-6 elbows (which are now legally under the new Unified Rules).

Vitor Belfort says 'Prime' Tom Aspinall too risky for Jon Jones

Very few hunters have come close to really beat Jon Jones … Dominick Reyes, Alexander Gustafsson, Thiago Santos in controversial decisions and of course Vorror Belfort who has submitted almost 'Bones' with a arm bar in their fight in UFC 152 in 2012.

His arm hyperextondeded, Jones refused to tap before he finally found his way out and later served Belfort himself with a keylock.

Although Jones has cleared generations of light heavyweights in the past, Vitor Belfort is ensuring that his former rival has finally met the future of the heavyweight division.

The #1-ranged Aspinall is almost six years younger than Jones, with explosive KO power and speed, so that many contenders have been left unconscious on the canvas. Aspinall has 100% removal defense and removal accuracy and on average 8.07 strikes per minute, the second highest percentage in the UFC today.

Aspinall has the shortest average fighting time at 2:02.

“Aspinall is a risk fight for him,” said Belfort.

“Aspinall would be great to see, but I mean, that guy is too young. He is in his prime. It is a risk for him. I don't recommend that for him.

'I just want to see it [Jones] Do some nice fights. I think you have done everything you could, “said Belfort about the UFC foundation of Jon Jones.

With or without Tom Aspinall, Jon Jones has already cemented himself as the biggest, if not one of the greatest hunters of all time.
