Kobbie Mainoo left Manchester United fans stunned when he shared a photo of himself with a Tottenham shirt.
The man from the man utd is Manchester through and through, but shared a throwback photo on his birthday with a retro spurs shirt.
Mainoo, who turned 20 today, went to Instagram to show his 3.3 million followers a glimpse of his childhood.
The international of England posted a photo of himself who played football as a child next to the caption, “20! Blessed”.
Bizarre enough, Mainoo applied a Retro Tottenham third shirt from the 1996-97 campaign – an unusual choice for someone born in Manchester in 2005.
The shirt, worn by Sol Campbell and Teddy Sheringham, led to confusion and indignation of United supporters online.
One wrote: “Why did he wear a spurs kit?”
While another was added: “Is Mainoo a Spurs fan or something?”
A third noticed: “Kobbie Mainoo post photos in a spurs kit is not a good look for the club. They have upset him in one way or another, he sends a clear message.”
And a fourth posted: “Why does Kobbie Mainoo wear a 96/97 Spurshirt, thought he was one of us.”
Mainoo has always been part of the Manchester United Academy and graduated from the first team in 2023.
While photos of him that old man was wearing in his youth, many thought he was always a Red Devil.
It is worth pointing out that another young person can be seen on the same kit in the background of the photo of Mainoo, which suggests that it was the kit of the choice for Mainoo's youth team at the time.
Mainoo helped Man Utd a step closer to setting up a Europa League final against Tottenham with his late heroic deeds against Lyon on Thursday evening.
The graduated Carrington graduated popped up with a 120th minute Equalizer when United turned around to beat two goals to beat the French side 5-4 in the quarterfinals of the Europa League.
