The return of Marseille Striker Mason Greenwood has been unveiled by manager Roberto de Zerbi.
Greenwood scored twice when Marseille Montpellier struck 5-1 in the Stade Velodrome on Saturday to strengthen their hope for Champions League.
The brace of the attacker comes after he was the subject of various damn reports that asked questions about his attitude and work percentage.
Before the game, a banner was evident in the northern bend of the Orange Velodrome, where the home fans of Marseille called for more effort from Greenwood.
The Banner – also aimed at Greenwood's teammate Luis Henrique – Read: “Greenwood, Henrique, get moving !!!”
And after the former Star of Manchester United reacted to the anti -air display in the best possible way, the Zerbi opened how he worked to restore the trust of the players.
“First of all it is not something that I am working on at the moment, at a time when it is more complicated. I work the entire season to help the players,” said the ex-Brighton boss.
You also have to realize that Mason did not play his career for two years. He is very young (23 years old) and being out of operation for two years is complicated.
“Last year he played for a club – Getafe – who fights to survive.”
The Zerbi also revealed that he worked together with Greenwood's father to help his development – but insisted that the forward 'waste was a bit of his potential'.
“He is an introverted person, a bit closed, but he has a great family around him, an extraordinary father with whom I have worked a lot, he helped me a lot to manage him, with the help of Mehdi Benatia.
It is true that he sometimes gives us the impression that he can score three or four goals per game, and sometimes that he wastes a bit of his potential and value.
So how can we help him? Well, sometimes by hugging him, by taking care of him and sometimes also by being harder, so that he continues his progression.
“This is the main objective that I have with all my players, beyond everyone we can have with the club, because if I make my players progress, we can achieve the goals of the club faster.”
Against Montpellier, Greenwood scored an early opener when he turned a penalty for eight minutes.
The 23-year-old then scored his second in the 67th minute and took his count in Ligue 1 to 18 goals for the season. Only PSG's Ousmane Dembele has succeeded in more (21).
After he rose as one of the smartest young talents of Man United, Greenwood left the club last summer after he was arrested in January 2022 before being accused of attempted rape, abuse and controlling and compulsive behavior.
The charges against Greenwood were withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Service after the 'withdrawal of important witnesses and new material that comes to light'.
Since then he has formally applied for his international faith of England, for whom he has made one outing, to Jamaica from Steve McClaren.
