Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies ‘is caught drink-driving by police’
Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies faces a one-month driving ban and a fine after being caught drink-driving.
Davies was stopped by police early on Thursday morning, with German newspaper BILD reporting that he had undergone a breathalyzer test at 2.15am.
They recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.6 grams per liter, above the legal limit in Germany of 0.5.
According to reports in Germany, Davies is expected to lose his driving license for a month and be fined €5,000 (£4,100) as well as two points on his driving licence.
The penalty is due to the fact that the violation is considered administrative and not criminal under German law.
In Germany, 0.8 grams per liter is the standard for committing a criminal offense.
Davies had reportedly been given a day off by Bayern Munich on Wednesday, following the club's 1-0 win over PSG in the Champions League a day earlier.
BILD reported that Davies had joined friends at a Christmas market outside the Lucky Who nightclub.
Davies is said to have subsequently moved to another club before being stopped by police in Munich.
German reports claim that Davies is not expected to face any further punishment from Bayern Munich.
The full-back had trained normally on Friday ahead of the club's Bundesliga match against rivals Borussia Dortmund, known as Der Klassiker.
Bayern go into the match between Germany's two most successful teams at the top of the Bundesliga.
Vincent Kompany's team is six points ahead of second-placed Eintracht Frankfurt.
Davies has made 17 appearances in all competitions for Bayern this season, starting nine times in the Bundesliga and in all five of their Champions League games.
The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has been widely linked with Real Madrid and Manchester United.
