Zirkzee’wants to LEAVE in January’ after being identified ‘concern’ with ability

One Manchester United star has decided they want to leave the club in the January transfer window after being singled out for criticism by new manager Ruben Amorim, according to reports.

Amorim's reign as United boss will face its third test on Sunday when Everton travel to Old Trafford, with the Portuguese still to get to grips with his new squad.

Former manager Erik ten Hag spent more than £600m on new signings during two seasons at the club and Amorim must now sort out the chaos left behind by the Dutchman's departure.

Another summer of spending saw the club's INEOS-backed sporting department strengthen the first team with five new signings and one of those players is now targeting a departure after less than six months at the club.

Matthijs De Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazsroui and Joshua Zirkzee all arrived at Carrington this summer and have each endured different fortunes since stepping foot in arguably England's biggest club.

Amorim wants to impose his favored 3-4-3 system on players in an attempt to turn United's fortunes around, but is already finding that some players may not be able to meet his demands.

Zirkzee has endured a nightmarish start to his England career after joining from Bologna for £36.5million and now wants to reunite with former manager Thiago Motta in Italy, as reported by La Gazzetta.

Motta is now in charge at Juventus and previously got the best out of the Dutchman when the pair worked together in Bologna last season, where they helped take the club to the Champions League.

Zirkzee scored twelve goals in 37 games for Bologna last season, but only managed to find the back of the net once in eighteen games, on the opening day of the season.

He has since been largely restricted to a supporting role and now believes a return to Italy could be the best option, with Motta keen to reunite with his former proven goalscorer.

Juventus are in favor of a loan deal for the 23-year-old, but it remains to be seen whether United would be willing to sanction a temporary move given their own precarious position in trying to balance FFP rules.

United are also short on centre-forward options and bringing in a new striker to support Rasmus Hojlund could mean Zirkzee has to leave permanently.

Amorim selected the Dutch international after remaining unimpressed with his efforts on his managerial debut against Ipswich and expressed 'concerns' over Zirkzee's ability, being wasteful in possession and failing to make runs into the penalty area.

He said, 'I think so [decision-making] is a problem, you don't need to coach them at this level.

'You have to keep the ball and know the momentum to put the ball in front. Sometimes you feel like you can't keep the ball with you [have to] put the ball in front.

'Then you have the feeling that at the end of the match we were standing around the penalty area with two strikers. Josh [Zirkzee] must understand that he has to go to the coffin to get the crosses.'

Zirkzee has not started a match since United's dismal 3-0 defeat to Tottenham in September and has largely been limited to substitute appearances.
